Default 1st Day of School Home Pictures

One of the good traditions we always have had,
as the boys were growing up,
is to take 1st Day of School Home Photos.
Usually at the front door w/ the bookbag,
lunchbag,
and a big smile.

A couple of years, I also had them hold up signs
to state their age and year, lest I forget
and not mark them.

One year, DH had to take the boys to school on the 1st day,
as I had to work early in the morning. I guess that DH did not help w/ the self-confidence of little ones returning to grade school.

DS#1 was at the front door of the house w/ DH,
and urped all over himself, his shoes, his dad and dad's shoes too.
Wish I'd been able to take that photo.

Do you do this family tradition?

We did it when I was little. Though it wasnt at the start of every year. I have one from my first day at pre- school, then kindergarten.
I also had first day in summer uniform in year 7, and also one in the winter uniform that same year. Then the last one is in my senior (yr 11&12) uniform.
I hated having them done, because mum always took them in the same spot in the garden, where the morning sun would shine soooo bright in our eyes, resulting in many photos (because you can't just take one and be done with it can you? ) having squinty eyed children.

But really I think it is a lovely thing to remember.

We went to catholic school as kids, and yes, my mom got a picture of us in our uniforms the first day of every school year. We had plain navy blue skirts or pants and a white button up shirt. Well I guess it was easy because we didn't have to pick out an outfit everyday. But those skirts sure were cold during the winter!

Ah...memories...

My mom did it on the front porch. I think we probably did it every year - or at least most.

the only one i can remember is my first day of first grade. me in my yellow outfit (why dad? why would you let me wear such a thing!), my purple lunch box and a gigantic bandaid over my skinned knee from the night before. My [step]sister's next to me with her classic 90s scrunched hair, big tee and probably too-short-for-school shorts. We both are incredibly embarrassed by the picture, but it's one of my favorites.

We had one everytime we started a new school, mum used to do it outside the house, moaning that we werent smiling right so we had to practice our smiles while mum took loads of photo's. Basically to mum, looking like a psychopath is a good smile.

In my sisters primary school photo she is crying because I told her she looked like a boy. At our primary school everyone had to wear black trousers, white shirt, black tie the schools emblem a black jumper, black blazer and black leather shoes, so we all looked like we were in training for the mafia.

Yes...but as my girls got older, I had to start taking pictures from within the house and peaking through curtains. The hole thing just humiliated them & they didn't want anyone to see!!

that still makes me laugh!!
