Default 35 yrs. old & breaking out!!!

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it because I'm 35 and female? I mean, is it hormones and age combined? It's crazy!
I never broke out like this as a teen or young woman. Why now? Is there anything out there that someone would recomend? I have used Pro Active once before, and am leaning towards it again. But it can be pricey!
Any suggestions?

My boyfriend is having the same problem right now. He never had an acne problem now in adulthood hes breaking out everywhere.

What I would suggest is:

St Ives Apricot Facial Scrub- You can get a tube at Wal-Mart for about $3. It should last you at least a month probably more. What it does is exfoliate your skin. It removes the dead skin cells that are clogging up your pores.

Oxy Maximum Strength Clenaing Pads- Again $3 a Wal-Mart. they are medicated pads that are moist and clean your face. They remove oil, and medicate against the acne.

Use the Oxy every morning and every evening. The St. Ives, every other day.

Have you changed makeup lately? You may be allergic to your makeup, or some other beauty product you are using. If you've changed somehting recently try not using it for a while and see what happens.

I developed an allergy to Herbal Essences shampoo that caused me to break out in hives. had used the shampoo forever, but they changed somehting in their shampoo taht now causes me serious problems. Your problem may not be you, it may be your beauty products or your clothing detergent.

Thanks so much for your advice! Ironically though, after posting this thread, I read an article in yesterday's paper about some stuff called Acne Free. You can also buy it at Wal-Mart. I picked some up last night and tried it and OMG! It has seriously reduced the size of some of the acne! It works! One more use tonight, and they should be all but gone. It's a miracle cream, and I would not have believed it had I not tried it.
It claims to be better than Pro-active at half the price. I will use this stuff from here on in.

I hear you it TOTALLY sucks!
One thing I will warn is to make sure whatever you use isn't drying out your skin TOO much - your skin knows it needs oil and if it gets too dry it will make more oil, creating a horrible cycle.

My niece, who has never had acne before, is suddenly breaking out. She went to live in Spain for a while, and had a sudden increase in stress and change in diet. Guess what? A hormonal imbalance, which is causing her acne, can be caused by stress or a change in diet. She had both of those things. So maybe your problem is also a hormonal imbalance. It's worth asking your doctor because topical treatments won't solve that kind of problem.

I'm still young, but I never had acne problems until my 20s. I guess I'd rather deal with it now than in high school when people can be really mean!
Anyway, I have incredibly sensitive skin and the only skin care products I've found that I've really like are Origins. The stuff is pretty expensive but you don't have to use a lot and it works really, really well on my sensitive skin. Plus, I think the lotions smell wonderful. My skin has really been alot better since I've been using the products.

Acne has been a problem for me on and off throughout my life. At 38, it's ridiculous to have to treat breakouts and anti aging at the same time. Here's a guide that has some good information on treating acne, product ingredients, etc. www.acneresource.org

It may not be acne but ROSASEA. (princess Diana even had it) You just need to go on something called METROGELmetronidazole , (a topical anti-biotic) which will clear it up quickly. You need a prescription. I had this happen after my third child and I looked like a red tomato with pimples. Peak age is 30-60!!!!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosacea
Beware of people trying to sell you "cures".
You may need to stay on this for months or start on it if this occurs again. Rosasea can scar (think WC Fields he had it) so see a doctor immediately. Be careful of scrubs, facial treatments and triggers such as caffiene, alcohol and sunlight (there are many more). Some doctors may not recognize rosacea.
Rosasa: Another name for Rosacea.
Rosasa (condition): Inflammatory rash affecting cheeks, nose, forehead, chin
Rosasa: Rosacea, previously called acne rosacea, is a chronic skin disease that affects both the skin and the eyes. The disorder is characterized by redness, bumps, pimples, and, in advanced stages, thickened skin on the nose. Rosacea usually occurs on the face, although the neck and upper chest are also sometimes involved. A mild degree of eye (ocular) involvement occurs in more than 50 percent of people with rosacea.

I really hope this helps someone else! Those with it also BLUSH easily.

Metro gel is great! I used it. My rosacea actually went away. I went to a doctor to make sure that's what it was. I had acne issues and rosacea so my skin was a mess. I was on a pill and cream for the acne and then metrogel for the other. best of luck!
