Default 4 m/c pcos, on metformin ,hormonal imbalance

hello my name is jody , im a newbie ive been looking for a place to seek help , friends and other woman in the same position im in,
over the last 3 years ive had 4 m/c
at 8 weeks jan 2006 , at 14 weeks sept2006, at 9 weeks jan 2007 , at 8 weeks sept 2007,..............then in december 2007 i had an abnormal pap come back i had CIN III (no hpv found) removed by wire loop excision all paps come back clear since have since pilled on the weight as a result of sadness and just feeling pretty low, now 112kg was 92kgs
( should tell you i was tested back in 2005 and was confirmed i carry the cancer gene 17 , 18 most woman in my family develope cancer in thier reproductive organs (estrogen fed cancer) so what chance do i have hey!!!!! but i have regular paps i have mamograms and scans of my ovaries and uterus every 2 years .)
i have had irregular cycles since my first m/c , since last year from the removal of the cells , ive had 1 period just a week ago (so im cd 16 at the moment)
i chart all my cycles for the gynie to review since having an ultrasound and blood test is shows i have pcos but blood test results showed my insulin was low at 11 (i think she said) so that was ok but the male homone androgens were high hense the long cycles pimples hairy arms and slight facial hair growth not too bad thank goodness ,
my doctor has prescribed me metformin , what i wanted to know is has anyone larger framed .... used metformin and fallen pregnant , how long does it usually take to pull in cycles so you can ovulate more reguarly and all important can it be used during pregnancy, im on 500 a day for the first 2 weeks then 1000 a day for the next 2 weeks then i will be 1500 then on
last cycle was 5 months long the one before that was 7 months long so since my m/c and gaining the weight after each m/c my cycles have really blown out,
im cd 16 today
thanks you in advance for your help jody

Despite being on metformin (850 mg) myself for Type II diabetes, I have no wisdom for you - not getting pregnant, too old, not possible for me. I would be interested in hearing what the medical folks on this site have to say.

I've been on and off metformin for PCOS for about 10 years now. No it has never made my cycles "regular" or even bring them back for that matter. I am currently taking it in hopes that it will help me get pregnant. I was on Actos (same type of Med as Metformin but is absorb different and works better some say)when I did my IVF cycle to become pregnant with my daughter. I did gain a lot of water weight with it so I didnt want to use it this time around. I am a larger girl and I am taking 2000mg at the moment. I am also taking clomid to help me ovulate. M/c's a VERY common for women with PCOS b/c of the hormone inbalance. My Dr. said (unoffically ) that if I stayed on metformin for the first tri. it might reduce the risk of m/c. I've read a few studies that agree with that thought but some say it is not worth the risk (it is a cat. B pregnancy drug which means it is safe for rats but who knows about human babies but sure we will approve it ). My Endo. did say that it was perfectly safe for the first 8 weeks though. Since the baby uses a yolk sac at that time for its main nutrition. Well good luck and I hope you get a BFP soon! Oh and Welcome to Families!

Default No reall answers

I also have a hormone imbalance and pcosI was prescribed clomid and it helped me get preg. However, I have heard of people who were succesful after taking metformin. Wishing you the best of luck so that you conceive.

Yes clomid is taken after the start of period. Others take it from CD5 to cd9 others from CD2 to CD6 while other from CD3 to CD7. It depends of the doctor prescribing it. I hope the drugs you are taking will work one day. For my second pregnancy I took clomid for 4 months starting with 50g, 100g and 150g for 2 months. Soon after the operation I conceived. I know I was able to ovulate because of the clomid I took for several months. Good luck girl.

ok update ..........
temp today 35.89 so its dropped even more pos opk even darker then yesterday!
wet as...... pain right side lower belly (ovaries i think).... so we will try and see if we get this lil bean.... guess i wait till in morning to see if i infact ovulated....... since ive got pcos it makes it hard to be sure.. but i have NEVER had a positive opk like these

CAN IT REALLY ONLY TAKE 5 WEEKS ON METFORMIN TO WORK - as in pull my cycle in, im on cd 52 .... normally before the pcos i was a 32 day cycle ,
so if this is ovulation that means im only about 4 weeks late ovulating which is great considering my cycle have been 5 months and 7 months long in the past,

lets see hey i will update tomorrow,
jo
