40-year-old pimples
I'm 41 years old. I've never really had a problem with acne in my life. When I was a kid, I had a few pimples here and there, and I thought the world was ending. Now, I'm in my forties, and I still get a few pimples periodically. I guess I always thought that all forms of acne went away in adulthood. Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this annoying problem?

My experience with adult acne is that it is not really acne, it is a form of rosacea. People who are fair skinned are prone to it. Untreated, it can leave you looking like WC Fields. You should see a dermatologist. I have had success with tetracycline and a sulfer cream that is available by prescription. Also, there are environmental triggers - alchohol, chocolate, cold, heat, - it varies with the person

I am 32 with acne and I have found something that works well that is is not that expensive. Look up Hoodivex on Ebay. I had stumbled upon this and thought, "yeah right". Well, it started to clear up my face after taking it for a week. Now that I am out my face is breaking out really bad. I have also found that I cannot eat alot of sugar. I believe the Ebay seller give a money back guarantee also. It has hoodia in it that is supposed to be an appetite suppresant. It seems to work only if you drink the 16 oz of water with it as they tell you. The supplement is made of concentrates of the 10 best foods. Just look up Hoodiavex on the internet to find out more about it. I have tried everything else and it didn't work: Proactive, Murad complex, Acne free (sold at Walmart). I hope this helps.

Hi Mark
If you were a woman, I'd say that you've hit perimenopause and the hormones are slowing becoming out of balance and the pimples appear. A lot of women get pimples around this age. Hardly seems fair to be getting pimples AND wrinkles! But as you're a guy, gee, I don't know! Maybe male menopause is getting your testosterone levels in a bother. If it's a real problem, I guess see a dermatologsit.

Hello... I'm 35 and have had adult acne for the last few years or so. Rosacea was my dermatologists first diagnosis, so I started using a cream for that with no luck. The next diagnosis was simply adult acne and I tried an antibiotic called Minocycline (like tetracycline)...which worked, but when you stop taking it, the acne comes back. Then I tried a drug called aldactone (sp?) which worked, but the side effects for me were worse than the acne.
Anyway...what I'm getting at is that I have finally found something that works for me and that's water...lots of water. I have never in all my life been a water drinker , but you always read how good water is for your skin, so I thought I would try it as a last resort before going the Accutane route. Man! am I glad I did. I've been drinking the 6-8 glasses of water a day for a few weeks now and have had only one bad breakout...which is miraculous to me.

you need to drink a lot of water.
next you need to avoid makeup; i have heard that mineral makeup is good for acne prone skin.

I have had trouble lately with acne, and I'm not used to it.....I started drinking more water and I switched to the mineral makeup and it has made a difference, plus I think it covers much better.....I also switched a different face wash, by Oil Of Olay, its a deep cleaning cream cleanser with witch hazel in it....

I'm 32 and have had acne for a few years. I recently tried Murad, and it really seems to be working! Of course, I also recently had a hysterectomy, but I kept my ovaries, so that shouldn't be affecting my skin.

Don't overlook rosacea in any of this. Water helps, also avoiding alcohol, chocolate, etc. HOrmone changes are biggies for rosacea getting out of control.
I found witch hazel was great for allergic reactions.

There is another thread on this as well. I suffered from terrible rosesea (4 yrs) until diagnosed. Onset is usually at least 30 years of age to 60. I went on topical metrogel. Keep on it faithfully. My dad had had rosesea for about 20 yrs and just tried my metrogel (at age 60) Cleared up too.
Usually makeup aggrevates it because of sensivitity to bacteria in the makeup (sorry I know you are probably meticulouts but it happens). Just don't put your fingers in the makeup. Throw away the old stuff too!
I really hope you find some help with this. It is just weird isn't it to have great skin and the pop it goes.
Yes, I totally agree with adding LOTS of water to your day and healthier foods a lot more.
