Default A custom built school house. . .

I need your ideas ladies (and gentlemen if there are any who care to share). I made mention that we're moving at the end of the summer. There is a shed on the property that my bil's are going to tear down and rebuild as a school house. One wall will be floor to ceiling book shelves. . .but pretty much (within reason) I can do whatever I want. So if you had your own cottage just for schooling--what would you do with it? (BTW--it will be heated and have electricity but plumbin is not an option.)

I think having a place where they can sit and be comfy where ever they happen to plop down...bean bag chairs, a fort or tent, rocking chair, recliner. You don't have to sit up straight to do homework.
A step ladder to reach the higher up books would be fun, maybe even ones with wheels on the bottom?
I would also make sure it will let in lots of natural light. Maybe nature murals on the walls. Shag carpeting to act as grass.

Have fun!!

My science teacher biased is coming right through here, but if we had one I would definately have a gas tap or two and science a equipment and chemicals so you don't have to go to a school to carry out experiments.

Samual you're allowed to be biased! That is too advanced for my little ones. . .Usually once kids get to that level of science they do what's called a co-op so a group of students get together and use a formal lab. But I'm a huge closet scientist so there will definitely be a lab section. . .I'd like a little garden/green house on the side.

A green house would be very easy, especially if you bought one of those four tier mini ones and set it up next to a window.

What a fun project! You might like this idea-- My dh covered one wall in our family room with sheets of the stuff they put inside of bathtubs and showers. Not sure what it is called?? Anyway, it functions just like a dry erase board. We keep buckets of dry erase markers on hand and it is very convenient for teaching lessons, keeping track of projects and assignments, and there is also plenty of room left over for little hands to color and draw. We love our dry erase wall, it is great!

Or you could paint an area with chalkboard paint and have a chalkboard wall instead! We considered that as well, but opted for the dry erase wall instead. I was concerned about clouds of chalk dust floating around the house !

What about a fish tank for science?

Two of my sisters who are school teachers use bean bags for reading nooks.

Maybe a couple of computers too.

This is really exciting!
