Default AAAHHHH non sleeping baby making me crazy!

Okay, I knew I would be sleep deprived when I had a new baby...but I thought by 11 months it would be a little better! Caleb's never been a great sleeper...once this summer he slept 8 hours straight 3 nights in a row - and then it was gone. Anyway, I've been surviving, but the last week has been terrible - every 1-2 hours he's up and screaming. Sometimes he'll settle down if I go in there, sometimes he won't and he'll scream for two hours straight. I hate leaving him in there screaming, but I'm so tired and frustrated that sometimes I feel like I might throw him out the window if I go back into his room for the 4th time in the middle of the night!

I've checked everything I can think of - room temperature, clean diaper, full tummy...I don't know what else to try. Aaahhh, will it EVER get any better!?

He may be teething. Or have an ear infection. K was doing that and I was at my wits end- come to find out the poor baby had an infection.

We don't do CIO(though I know some will suggest it). So I don't have any real suggestions for you. (((hugs)) It HAS to get better! Never heard of a 10 year old that woke crying every 2 hours

I keep feeling in his mouth for new little teethers and nothing yet...but that doesn't mean they're not working on it. We haven't had any ear infections yet, so I'm not sure about that one. It would be nice if there was some explanation...hehe, well, I'm sure if he could talk he would give an explanation that's perfectly logical to him

I really wish that he would calm down for dh - unfortunatley he only cries harder when dh goes in there, so no breaks for mommy .

Try putting music on for him all night. From the time Emma was born, she's had music going in her room softly all night. I change them up ever 6 weeks or so for my sanity (I hear them on the monitor at night...lol), but they're the same CDs... So, when he wakes up, he hears a sweet, familiar sound. That might help. Emma was an excellent sleeper until she hit about 9 months. She just started sleeping soundly again (11-12 hours a night) about a month ago. When she hit 12 months, I put her bumper pad back into her crib, and that helped a lot, too. She felt like someone was there with her (even though she's never slept with me and my husband, except on a night when we didn't have heat and we all congregated in our bed together to stay warm), but she still liked feeling like she was snuggling next to someone/something. That's something no one tells us when we're pregnant. They make it sound like when they start sleeping through the night, our worries are over. WRONG!

Could baby have reflux? That tends to cause some pretty bad discomfort at night. Just a thought...........

Thats the same for me! She wants to nurse ever 1-3 hours at night and she is refusing to do it in bed and makes me get up and sit in a chair. She is very picky. And I can't ignore her very well b/c she crawls on me until I wake up!

I have no solutions for you except give it time (hopefully by the time he is six ) Ellamae does get really really bad when she is teething, and when she had an ear iffection there was no sleep for anybody, just screaming.

Last night as I was nursing her for the 'I have no idea how many times' I looked out the window and saw everybody's trash bins by the curb (its trash day) and I thought, I could put her in there I think everybody has those thoughts.

Bkallens and ruthann--someone once told me "Wanting to throw your baby out the window is normal. Doing it is not"As far as the non-sleeping baby I have no advice, just sympathy. My DS started sleeping 5 hour stretches at 3 weeks. The problem is he stopped at 7 months. From 7-18mo he woke up AT LEAST once/night (3 exceptions in that time!). For a couple months (18-20) he as good, but it's been getting bad again. (He turned 2 in August)

Thanks for the encouragement ladies. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that at times thinks terrible throughts about their precious baby . I was starting to feel like I really might be crazy - like mental hospital crazy! I do so much better when I feel like his behavior is perfectly normal, it's when I start feeling like he "should" be sleeping that my attitude goes south .

I'm glad to report that he did MUCH better last night. He went down at 7 and then slept straight until 2:15. He nursed a bit at 2:15 and 5:15 and then slept until 7:30. I feel so good today!
