Default Action movies

Am I the only woman who likes action movies? I love martial arts movies, and Jackie Chan is just the greatest because many of his movies are so family friendly. But I like other martial arts films, and just about anything in the Die Hard, or Under Siege genre.
Not a whole lot of chick flickin' at my house. If you can't beat em, join em!

I love action movies. The Jason Bourne series is one of my favorites (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremecy). I love romantic comedies as well, but as for the mushy chick flick drama movies, those I could do without.

Most women I know seem to be ok with "action" movies as long as they mix something else interesting in.

My girlfriend, for example, is a big fan of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. They're essentially just action films, but the added Sci Fi & Fantasy stuff makes them more appealing to her.

Default Action Films

I LOVE action films!
Some people enjoy the artsy, "make you think" movies, but when I have the time to see a movie, I really want something that has very little to do with reality. If its got tough guys (and/or gals) with guns and things blowing up - I want to see it. Has anybody seen "Doom" yet?

Oh yeah, the Bourne movies are fabulous!
Haven't seen "Doom". Saw "The Rock" promoting it on Comedy Central last night. Looks like mindless fun. They showed a clip of him with the biggest gun I have ever seen on TV. Have you seen it?
I think Kevin is right about having several dimensions to the movie - sci fi with action, drama with action, etc. I like "artsy" films too, but they have to have a hook. And they have to move, unless they are period pieces of some of my favorite classics. Now there's a thread, Hmm, maybe I'll start it and see what comes up.
About man/woman artsy stuff - when my parents were first married, they double dated with a couple my mom worked with. It was kind of a Ricardo/Mertz relationship. The women insisted on seeing "The Red Shoes" with Moira Shearer. The men went along. The women loved it. The men fell asleep. Both of them.
Years later, I saw it. I like ballet, but I have to say, I was with the men on this one. ZZZZonk!

Although I would not call them family movies, for my money, any film with Wesley Snipes is tremendous action. Snipes is great at the deadpan one-liners that add flavor to a film. Plus, his martial arts are as believable than anyone in the business. Most of his movies also have the interesting plot that is missing in most of the others you mentioned.

Default Action Heroes

What's happening to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? Although Doom was the biggest movie "bringin' it" this past weekend, it only cleared $15.5 million which is pretty low for a big name in an action flick.

Now that Arnold, Sly and Seagal are aging and moving on (well, in the case of Seagal, I WISH he'd move on), who are our new action heroes?

Sly should never move on, just forward. My youngest still loves all the Rocky Movies. In fact, his godparents who are older and very academic types, took him to see "Million Dollar Baby", because they know he likes boxing. I have not seen it, and based on his recommendation I would not do so.
"Aww mom, half the movie is about her dying. And then she dies. And there is not enough boxing. What's a boxing movie without boxing. I like Rocky better!!!" He also liked the movie about Ali. Drama AND boxing. But Rocky better. ALL the Rocky movies!!!
Sly has a new reality show about boxing, and I think he is still planning a movie. He still really comes across on the screen.
But yes, Mark is right about Wesley Snipes. He has been in a variety of great films.

I have all the Rocky movies. As a matter of fact, they're in my home gym where I watch them while working out. I have yet to find any other movies that are so motivational during a tough workout!

I loved "Ali" with Will Smith. Now there is a guy who should do more action films! I really enjoyed the "Bad Boys" movies too.

Sly is planning another Rocky movie. Talia Shire won't be in this one. (They're writing Adrian as deceased.)

Wesley Snipes IS good. I know it is more sci-fi, but I really enjoyed "Blade". The second "Blade" was a real letdown though. I never bothered seeing the third. I wanted to keep my respect for Snipes.

Although there is not as much boxing as in movies like Rocky, there is quite a bit in Million Dollar Baby. And half the movie is not about her dying. It ends up being about 30 minutes. This is a heartrending story that everyone, from boxing fan to romantic should see. What a great story and tremendous acting.
