Default Excema - It's a tricky ailment

I have battled with excema for over 12 years. I have had it severe (oozing, cracking, bleeding, fingernails falling out.... really disablitating) from my head to my feet. I've been to over a dozen specialists and tried every perscription cream (sometimes they work for a few days but then they don't) I didn't believe it before but I think it has to be caused by stress and nutritional deficiencies. For anyone who suffers here is what I have found to work for me (although I still get little flare ups, but nothing like before) I take bee pollen everyday (a complete nutrition), drink a cup of neem tea a day and take a teaspoon of seabuckthorn oil every morning. The combination has done wonders as well as helping my overall health. For immediate relief of my excema the best solution I found was Cetaphil soap (you don't need to use water with it) and Neutrogena hand cream (comes in a little box at any drug or grocery store) the combination is great. My best friend suffers from excema on 88% of her body has tried everything and banana peels help her (didn't do much for me though)
Hope this helps someone out there who is going through what I have. I also have pernicious anemia, which is a B12 deficiency due to a lack of intrinsic factor. Bee Pollen has worked wonders for all my side symptoms associated with that.

Anyone else have it, and what have you done to help it?
This past winter my neighbor got this kind of hand problem. Looked nasty, like her skin was falling off and leaving her hands all raw and bare. She went to her skin Dr and he said use rubber cloths when washing dishes and such. He told her ALSO apply Cetaphil cream OFTEN all day.
She did and her hands look much much better.
Took awhile, but she is diabetic and does not heal fast.
To look at her hands now you wouldn't know she had any problem at all, but she still uses the Cetaphil cream on her hands all the time.

Default How to Live with Chronic Eczema

The best book that I have read on Eczema is: Eczema Free for Life by Adnan Nasir. I would recommend any person with eczema or parent of a child suffering from eczema retrieve it.

I suffer from severe atopic dermatitis... I try to curb it's effects. Here's what works for me:

1. WATER Drink as much water as humanly possible

2. BATHING Do not bathe more than once each day. If avoid really hot water, while hot water soothes the itch, it dries the skin and will make matters worse. When you bathe use soap sparingly, as necessary. Most soaps will irritate the skin.

I love Aveno Soap. It never irritates my skin.

When a flare up occurs an oatmeal bath works wonders. Oatmeal is also a great alternative to soap.

3. MOISTURIZING Cera Ve is the greatest thing ever created in life. A bit pricey, but worth the price. Cetaphil comes in close second.

During a serious outbreak Extra Extra Virgin Olive Oil does the seals the skin and soothes it. (It may be embarrassing to walk around like you are smeared in chicken grease, but it beats the alternative)

4. MEDICATION

For EXTREME Eczema talk to you doctor about
  1. Administering a Steroid Injection (Triamcinalone, Prednizone or Kenalog). Warning, many dermatologists use this only as a last resort
  2. Or administering an oral antibiotic with an oral OR atopical steroid. For antibiotics Cephalexin/Keflex has worked wonders in my life when coupled with Oral Prednizone OR a Triamcinalone cream.
Exzema definitely stems from how your immune syste works. So make sure that you are not taking medicine all year round. You definitely do not want your body to become immune to the steroids and especially not the antibiotics!

Hope this helps!

I have just came down with excema about 2 years ago. I had a c-section and I had a severe reaction to the surgical tape and develpoed blisters. Still have scars. Anyway, while still in the hospital, I broke out on my inner thighs and on my stomach. They treated me with something, can't remember what, but I had it for about a week. Then last year I had surgery and about 10 days later I broke out. I thought it was a heat rash but it just got worse and worse! When to the derm dr., he did biopsies and said it was excema. Gave me cream and oral steroids and after 2 weeks it was gone. A month or so later, I got an epideral steroid injection in my back, about 10 days later I broke out again. Did same as before. Had shoulder surgery last month and guess what? I'm broke out again... I have had alot of bad luck lately, but this excema is driving me nuts!!! I'm going to try the Tide free, no dryer sheets, and start back with the Aveno(I used it during one break out), and try to drink plenty of water. I have some mild allergies to pollen and such, so I am going to take some Zyrtex and see if that helps also. I'll be back and post what happens. Glad I found this forum!! Thanks, Sherry

Ok. I have been using the Tide free, Bounce free and Dove sensitive for a week, drinking plenty of water, using cooler water than I like in the shower and my skin is all clear without any meds or creams! My local grocery store did not have the Downy free, so I got the Bounce free. Not sure if one or all work, but I don't care as long as it's gone! Hope it stays gone! Thanks

I'm not an adult but i've had eczema sense i was 2 or 3. I have it on my neck, on my inner elbows, back of my knees, my scalp ( gross right?), and my sholders. When I was like 5 it was really super bad I did have some ointment that my doctor gave me but it was really gross. Somehow my mom found out about aquaphor, it worked amazingly good. Then I went to using cortisone, the cream kind not the injection. I use that now every time my eczema gets bad. I also use aveeno lotion every day and i get eczema outbreaks like never. I've tried other lotions like jergens, the vasaline lotion, and generic aveeno but they don't work nearly as good as the real aveeno. Highly recomend aveeno!!

hello I am new here. I too have the excema. A lot of what you all say in this thread is true. I have had this for around 10 years. The bad news is I think i got it from the family. Also it has progressively gotten worse. I currently have it on most of my limbs. I am in a search for better treatments that will help. Things that I have found that help
WATER - find it and drink it
Less stress take a day off get a hobby
lotions- hard to say I have to use a combo of steriod ointment , shot, pills, and lotion.
For outbreaks- COLD shower. Or ice on the hot spots.
A couple of benedril help to sleep at night. Dont drink alcohol.
I had only been sporting a small amount of ezxma on my feet, then I had PB and J for lunch for a week and then 2 meals of shrimp. Broke out on all limbs, face ect. That week I was drinking less water then normal. And i never eat PB and J. I think that there is somthing to it.
Anyways, I too could use some more advice for helpful hints. Any sujjestions.??
