Default Advice on getting pregnant please!

Hi, I'm Hayley and almost 22. I'm engaged to my wonderful Fiance Bryn who I've been with for nearly 4 years. We have lived together for 3 1/2 years and been trying for a baby for 9 months after believing I was pregnant last year.

My periods are all over the place and so I can't work out when I ovulate without buying an ovulation test (and they are too expensive!)

Over the past 12 months my cycles have been as follows,

9, 21, 82, 35, 43, 37, 50, 34, 35.

I know that you ovulate on day 14 of your cycle if you have a 28 day cycle. But when I ovulate obviously isn't this.

Could anyone work out when I would ovulate going off my very varied cycles? I have looked at a few websites which are meant to work it out for you but they all seem to charge you for access or give limited access to the features of the site, again unless you pay to enter these 'locked' features. (which I can't afford to pay).

Has anyone got any useful advice on how to improve chances of getting pregnant as each time my period is late I get my hopes up, only to be disappointed when my period eventually arrives.

Thankyou in advance for any help or comments I receive. All will be most appreciated.

Hayley

Hi Hayley, it's nice to meet you. I'm just going to move this to the TTC board as I think you'll get more responses there since this is a TTC question. Good luck to you!

Hi and nice to meet you, welcome to Families, i'm Sophie sahm of 3. With my first child i was the same i couldn't pinpoint my ovulation either cause my cycles were all mixed up, but did manage to get pregnant on the 10th month of trying. Maybe you can try keeping track of your temperature and see if that helps any, sorry if i can't be of more help, good luck!

I bought these strips at walmart there were 20 in the box (the box was pink I don't actually remember what they were called). I don't remember how much they cost but maybe those would work for you.

I would honestly put up the $$ and register at either Fertility Friend or Ovusoft. You can chart for free at Fertility Friend, but you won't have access to the special features which can really help in pinpointing whether or not you're ovulating, when you're ovulating, and if there is a potential problem (after you chart for awhile you can look for potential patterns, and if there is a problem bringing your charts to your doctor can be of help in pinpointing what that problem may be). That, and their forums are really great as there are a lot of women in the same boat who can offer suggestions about your cycle and what you may want to consider trying. I haven't tried Ovusoft myself, but I have heard good things about it, and the bonus is that you only have to pay a onetime fee (about 40$) and you get the charting program right on your computer. I also have very inconsistent and erratic periods (I maybe get six a year), and if I wasn't temping/charting, I would have no clue when I ovulate because it's that varied.

After all- 40$ is a LOT less expensive than a baby Heck, that's a package of diapers and a can of formula.

I had the same problem where my cycles are all over the place. I ended up buying a fertility monitor. I know they are expensive but it's a great investment to have your baby!
