Default AF & supply

So AF came back this week and i seem to be completely empty. she's still eating at the same times, so i know that's not the issue. but it'll be a few hours & i can't tell at all which side she ate from. (normally one will be fuller, obviously). so my question - is this going to happen during just the week of AF, or am i drying up? should i supplement during this week?

You do know what I'm going to say right?

NOOOOOOOO don't supplement unless she's not peeing at all. A dip in supply with AF is normal and shouldn't be a big concern. If you supplement, you're just telling your body to make less milk. If you have to nurse more frequently, so be it. Isn't she at a ripe age for a growth spurt as well?

I agree!!! Don't supplement!! You'll only make it worse. Also, you might not actually be drying up at all. After you bf for a while your breasts will not become as engourged, so your supply may actually be fine, it might just be the engorgment that's subsiding. If your baby is having wet diapers, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

that's what i thought! but i was all sorts of worried! she's 9 months... is that another growth spurt age? she's tall & skinny, but already in 12-18 month clothing because she's so tall. i was hoping she was leveling off. she's still peeing & whatnot, was just concerned she wasn't getting enough good MM nutrition. she's on a lot of solids too, so she's certainly not starving or anything. thanks!

If she's on solids you definitely don't need to worry. you may find that she'll eat more solids while af is visiting. . .but not all women find that to be the case. But there's no need to worry nutrition wise either. Bfing is very stress free.

she sounds like Gabby (Gabby is almost a head taller than her cousin which is 3 mths older) and yes there's a growth spurt at 9 mths... 'growth spurt' is a little misleading as it can happen with developmental milestones not just with growth... i can always tell AF is about to come as my supple starts to drop and Gabby wants to feed a little more than normal
