My kids are 5 years apart. It is much easier, I think. My daughter didn't get jealous and she helps out. I can trust her with the baby. I was wondering what it would be like to have 2 a year apart? I keep thinking I must be crazy.

I don't have any children yet, but I don't want to have them too far apart - partially because I want a big family, but also so that can be closer. My husband was an accident baby (his sister is almost 12 years older than him, and his brother is almost 9 years older than him) and he has a totally different relationship with his siblings than my sister and I do (who are much closer together in age). His relationship is much less like a sibling relationship and more like a father/mother relationship (maybe more like an uncle/aunt relationship).

i have two daughters one is 11 1/2 years old and the other just turned 1 year old... it's definately different then some of the mom's i see out there with a 3 year old and a 1 year old.....but it's been great!!! my 11 1/2 year old daughter just loves her baby sister and thinks she's just the cutest thing ever... even when she goes into her room and touches all her things... my baby girl adores her older sister and now that she is walking, she follows her everywhere. i believe they will always be close and i believe that my little one will always look up to her sister. i also am very lucky that my older daughter does not resent the baby at all... i could see that could happen if the older child does not feel secure... everyday, i make sure i have time for my older daughter!!! good luck!!!!

My kids are only 3 years apart, but I have a friend who is 7 years younger than her sister. As children, she said she felt like an only child because her sister was so much older. But now, as adults, they are best friends. Good luck to you!

I have children that are far apart and close together! My first is 8, second is 3, and third is 1! I have to say that I like the 5 yr spread between the two the best! It gave me time to enjoy the baby and toddler time! then when my second child was born, I could enjoy him for a little bit and BAM I was pregnant again! The two that are 2 yrs apart was hard in the beginning for me! Now it is nice, they fight and fight a lot! But that is expected! I do want one more child and i am hoping to wait until my baby is at least 3 or 4 before we try again!

Default 2 years apart

I have 5 kids, ages 7, 5, 3, and 1yo twins. (I know pick your jaws up off the floor! ) I love it. . .there's always something to do and the kids seem to genuinely enjoy each other. . .for the most part. BUT it was hard at first, as someone said.
I suspect that getting pregnant changes your perspective significantly. If you wanted them far apart but got unexpectedly pregnant, most people would choose to see it as a good thing rather than lamenting the child!
I will say this though, many people say (including me at one time) that having them close together like that is like having twins. It NOTHING like having twins!

I've got two that are 3 1/2 years apart. That seems to be a good age spread. My daughter is entering third grade and my son, sixth grade. It's actually a great age difference and if I was actually going to have had a third, I'd have kept in that same age frame.

Of course, now my boyfriend and I have five together (blended family). And their ages are VERY close together when you stick them all in one. Our youngest is about to be seven, then we have an eight year old, nine year old, and two eleven almost twelve year olds! Are we nuts or what?!?!
