Default age when mmr is given

What age do you let your baby get the mmr vaccine? I know most of the doctors around here wati till 18 months of age. That way the child is old enough to handle the triple assult on the immune system.
My niece went to the health department yesterday for her mmr, she is only 12 months old, and is just getting over a stomach bug that she was on antibiotics for. ( about a week or 2 ago) I know it will probably be ok, but I can't help but be a little nervous for her. I was shocked to hear that they gave her the mmr so young. But, because it was the health dept and not a regular pediatritian, they are not aware of the family history of allergies, asthma, adhd and other things that are possibly linked to immune problems.
I was just wondering what age everyone else is getting the mmr done.
