Air Force Fiancee--A Few Questions...
Hello, my name is Ashley and I am engaged to a recent member of the Air Force. We had planned on getting married in August of next year, but I am wondering if we should move up the wedding so that we can be married before he goes to basic training (September-October of this year). We never planned on a big fancy wedding, so it wont be a big loss if we have to move it up.
I also have a few questions about finances. If we are married before he goes to basic, what kind of benefits do I get? Im getting TriCare insurance right now, and have my I.D card and everything because my dad is in the Navy and I'm still considered his dependent. So will those benefits just roll over once I get married?
Also, I know that I cant go with him to basic, but what about the tech school afterwards? He's trying to get into the linguistics area, and tech school for that is in Monterey, CA ( I think--correct me if I'm wrong) and the programs he wants (Japanese, Korean, or German) run anywhere from 48-64 weeks (again, please correct me if I've made a mistake). Will he get housing allowances or anything during this time? Will I be able to go there with him and us get a house off base with the allowance? My mom is being a pessimist and saying the he has to be an officer before they will even let me go on base with him.
Lastly, will it still be possible for me to go to college and get a degree? I'm very passionate about learning and I would feel worthless if I wasn't going to college (Right now I am a Anthropology major/Archeology minor, but I would be willing to go to college for something basic like history or a foreign language if needed.) Is there anyway I can still be with my husband and go to college (even if its community college)?
I am just really confused right now because I have some people telling me that I won't get to see him or have any benefits until after he's done with tech school; others saying I get benefits and we get a housing allowance the first day of basic, etc. I'm really lost and I just want to get all of my facts straight.
Thanks in advance,
Ashley
