Default Allergy

Could a new food allergy cause JUST a bad diaper rash?

I'm not sure on that one. I think that most food allergy symptoms are breaking out around the mouth, swelling, hives, etc. I'd call your Dr and see about it.
Some foods/drinks that are acidic can cause bad diaper rash. I found that out when I drank a little too much Sprite. I nurse and Robert got BAD diaper rash. He also got it bad whenever I ate spaghetti more than two meals in a week.
My niece gets bad diaper rash when ever she eats Mexican food. She is 18 months old. I had never heard of that till I saw it with her.
Best of luck to you! Let us know what you find out!

short answer, yes, they certainly can , a couple of mine had bad rash when they tried certain foods, usually combined with horrible tummy aches.

OK, so what do you think of this.Last week Emma went to the Ped and she said to start her on whole milk. I'm still BF and really didn't want to do this. Well, DH gave her some in her cup and she loves it. So we gave her 4 ounces in her cup with lunch every day (Wed, Thurs & Fri).At the same appointment I told the Ped that Emma has had diaper rash off and on and the OTC ones don't seem to get rid of it. I can change her diaper when she gets up in the morning and she is perfectly fine. An hour later her behind looks like she sat in a poop diaper for 2 days.. She gave me a prescription for nystatin. This was Tuesday and by Friday her behind looked the worst I have ever seen it and it keeps getting worse with each change. Saturday I cut the milk and the nystatin because I could not tell which one might be causing it. Today she looks much better.Just a coincidence...maybe? I'm afraid to give her milk or use the darn ointment. The poor thing was so sore and uncomfortable. She has had other dairy products before, like cheese, yogurt & ice cream.

Oh, and I thoroughly checked her body over and there is no rash anywhere else.

So she looks much better without the Nystatin and without the milk right? The Nystatin is for yeast and yes, sometimes it can make things worse. Has she had any antibiotics recently or anything or did the diaper rash have any white part to it? Like it looked like skin peeling? Does she have thrush in her mouth?

I'd cut out both and let her heal for awhile. I highly recommend butt paste. (Yep--the real name of it.) I'd not use the cream but you could consider reintroducing milk in a smaller quantity. But since she had the rash before that (if I read that right), I'd think that it's not the milk that's the issue but something else.

Thanks Val! No antibiotics and no white parts. It just looked like she sat in a messy diaper for days (even though she didn't). Her skin was bright red and looked dry and raw. I have tried butt paste, that and triple paste (not a the same time ) worked the best out of every brand (and store brand) at the drug store. I was worried the milk was making it worse, like if she were having a bad reaction to it. But the more I think about it I would think that we would have seen something before when she had yogurt or ice cream.

Probably. . .in more mild form. Yes--triple paste and butt paste are awesome. Butt paste was more readily available.

Butt paste is good I sometimes use that, but it can stain. I also use Eucerin's Aquaphor for Baby's. It worked within hours for Robert. It comes in a jar or a tube. It's a little expensive, but I love it.
