Allergy Testing
Well after my consultation with the allergist, I will be going back in for allergy testing in a week or so to determine exactly (if anything) I am allergic to. Anyone else gone through this? What should I expect?

Allergy Test
Hi. My daughter suffers tremendously from allergies and will be seeing the doctor soon to get refered to an allergist. While looking up web sites that have natural remedies for allergies I came upon pollen.com which contains videos that are helpful. One had to do with the tests. It didn't look too bad. I'm not too sure about receiving injections that contain allergens. How in the world do they get pet dander in injection form? I do understand it helps beef up your antibodies. After awhile you won't have as many injections, so that's a plus.
I am recommending this to my daughter only because I don't want to see her go into Anaphylactic shock.
Good Luck!

Well I don't guess I'll be posting much in this forum anymore . . . after having my allergy testing done this morning I found out I'm not allergic to anything!! I couldn't believe it, because I haven't felt well for several years and I've always been told its allergies by my doctors. The allergist called it "sensitive nose" and basically said my nose reacts to other things like pollution but I"m not allergic to anything.
As for the testing . . . it was nothing . . . just a few pricks, certainly nothing unbearable.

Why havent I posted here before? Never noticed it
Our family is the 'atopic family'.
DW is anaphylactic to peanuts/nuts/shellfishies
DD#1 No Known Allergies (NKA)
DD#2 with multiple allergies.
DD#3 was on Alimentum RTF til 15 mths, currently NKA's.
Wealth of knowledge... #2 was on Neocate, weaned to toddler soy formula, and currently a soy gal (and allergic to 7/8 of the big .
Was part of a clinical study pre-fda approval for Elidel.
Had insurance cover the Neocate, and then the Alimntum RTF for #3.
Care to talk/chat? LMK
We've done SPT (skin pr!ck testing) and RAST (blood draw). I know <ALL> the drills. RAST + for #2 included the majors (milk, egg, etc..) as well as 'others' (garlic, mustard, sesame) and grasses, etc...
Current Meds consist of Zyrtec, Nasonex, cortisone creams (or Elidel),
But before you say it.... She's a VERY VERY healthy child... VERY 'normal' 6 yr old girl... just has some 'food issues'

WOW!
I have servere allergies to dust and dander. No outside allergies that I know of. The last allergy test I had was 17 years ago and it was a blood draw. I was allergic to all things "inside" at that time.
I was taking Nasonex-- I love that nose spray out of all the nose sprays, but it got expensive so I'm not taking it any longer. I now take an OTC allergy pill before bed every night and that gets me thru the day. I was thinking about going back to prescription allergy meds since I'm on a different insurance now that would probably cover them.
I really want to take allergy shots though. I just don't know if those would help me or not since I'm on a differnt injection med.
Glad you're ok, LisaDK!

My daughter did have her blood drawn, I didn't know they could tell anything with that. She rattled off a few things, but I need to speak with her again to get it all. What is RAST + for #2?

RAST + for #2 meaning:
The RAST test results for child #2 (Caitlin) was positive for everything we tested for.
We test the same things, generally, year over year, because we know these are the things we avoid, and that she reacts to, listed below, mostly.
She continously tests positive for the major allergens (milk, egg, etc..) as well as the 'others' and we avoid all of them.

Wow! That's alot of allergies. Good thing you have it under control. When I went to Pollen.com and watched some videos, it help inform me about the anaphalytic shock possibilities. I knew if someone was allergic to bees or peanuts they could go into shock, but it seems this could happen with pretty much all allergies. That is scary. Well, I guess it has to depend on how bad your allergy is to particular allergens??

Abo****ely.
Caitlins NEVER touched peanuts - never eaten them. Never got them while DW was pregnant (she's allergic too). Yet the testing shows positive, to ALL the nuts/peanut. We dont know WHAT type of reaction she'd have, and the scores don't correlate to 'reaction'.
We've SEEN the reaction to banana, milk, and others. To us, scores are positive, we avoid. End of story.

That definitely sounds like the correct approach to me! There's this ABC homeopathy forum where this person was talking about common, seemingly not life threatening allergies, and stated how he had anxiety attacks because of them and I posted some of that info about severe reactions and how it could be worse than what the doctor was telling him. I can see how anxiety can come about with allergies if it makes it hard to breathe when you getting close to possibly having a severe reaction!
This post would have been sooner, but I am using Gmail, and replied to the email itself instead of at this site. At least I was notified that it wasn't posted.
