In general tubes should help with the ear infections. But it sounds as if he is sick and that can increase the chance of ear infection. Tubes help drain the ear better which helps prevent fluid from staying in the ear and getting infected. If he is sick he may have nasal congestion and extra fluid. The ears, nose, throat are all connected. An issue with one can causes issues with the other.
What did your doctor say? I would let his ENT know so they can check to make sure everything is working properly. If he starts getting ear infections w/o any other nose, throat issues, then the tubes probably are not working right. Or he may have other issues.
I have a couple clients that I have to take to the ENT on a regular basis b/c their anatomy is a little different than "normal" and they have to have their ears cleaned & checked regularly. They have very small ear canals.
