Unhappy Any ideas what this could be???

My LO is just over a week old. He started to spit up a lot, which I kinda expected. Then he vomited a LOT on Tuesday. I mean, a LOT. and, get this--it looked JUST like egg yolks, in color and consistency. It was very slimy, so not at all like spit up. He has been gagging pretty regularly, coughing, sneezing, choking, and very sleepy. He was also very jaundiced when we left the hospital, but is recovering from that. We took him to the doc who said to just watch it. He then had some difficulty breathing, he sounded snotty and gunky and was still vomiting. We took him to the ER who told me, and I quote "Babies throw up, that's normal. Babies sleep. That's normal" and sent me on my merry way. I took him BACK to his ped because the ER doc did say something about pyloric stenosis. However I looked up the information for pyloric stenosis and it doesnt really sound like that's what it is. So we went back to the ped who weighed him, he lost an oz in less than 24 hours. She is having me come back in tomorrow for a weight check and if Tyler lost weight since then she is going to order GI testing and ultrasounds to check for both pyloric stenosis and malrotation of the intestines.
Any clue what this could be? I looked up all I can on this and it doesn't really sound like either PS or malrotation.
I am starting to wonder if perhaps he has a cold? His ped checked the back of his throat and said it was clear and that his chest was clear, that it didn't appear that he was sick. But this little boy just seems sick and my gut is telling me something is wrong but no one will listen. I know a couple of people have suggested reflux or GERD, but would that encompass the yellow mucous? I mean, it was a LOT. Any suggestions are welcome. Something is wrong... I just dont know what yet.
Tyler will already have one surgery to correct a dermoid cyst on his eye, I don't need him going through ANOTHER surgery, let alone a pretty big one.

I really have no idea what this could be. My son has thrown up... showering me and his looked more like oatmeal... I nursed him so I thought that's what it was.
Could it be flu? Swine flu? I really don't know. I'd watch him carefully. Does he have fever?
Are there any tests that they can do?

Babies often lose weight in the first couple of weeks so dont be too concerned over that. Babies do throw up - a lot, but what you describe doesnt sound right. Normally when babies are sick its the milk (bottle or breast) that comes back up and it doesn't look too different to when it went down. Babies do also sleep a lot, in my experience young babies, feed, sleep and poo - and not much else!

I think you are doing the right thing in going back to see the doctors, they are the experts and best placed to find out if there is anything wrong. If you are unsure and your gut feeling is that something is not right then you should trust your feelings and see a doctor. Maybe collect some of the sick next time so you can show it to the doctors, it may help them work out what is going on.

I don't know...when I throw up on a empty tummy its yellow. I think its from the bile. Maybe he's throwing up so much that he doesn't have any food left so the bile is coming up.

Well I took him back to the doc for a weight check. He lost another oz in two days. After talking to the doc she thinks its moderate reflux and that the mucus was probably from a cold, and that post nasal drip can upset his tummy. I also wonder if maybe the jaundice had something to do with it?? After the vomiting his coloring looks soooo much better he almost looks normal again. Anyway he was put on zantac. She wrote the rx for .7 mL however the pharmacist said that is triple what should be for his weight. So until I hear back from the doc to confirm her directions I am giving him .2 mL. He already seems better! He just polished off 3 oz, double what he used to. He also is not as fussy. Not sure if its the meds or a fluke but he seems to be doing well so far on day one! I have another weight check for him on monday. So right now no GI workups.. Depending on how his weight gain is after the cold passes. Yay!!

Good to hear he is on the mend, fantastic news. Keep us updated with how he gets on, I'm sure that now he is feeding the weight will start to go up.

I'm glad the medicine is working! I know if I don't take my reflux meds it make me very mucusy and gives me almost asthma type symptoms.
