Default Any Success Stories w/self insemination?

I am self inseminating with fresh donor sperm. I tried this from 12/05 to 12/06 and stopped for medical reasons. In 12/05, I succeeded once with a chemical pregnancy. I am now starting to try again after a 6 month break.
Has anyone else had better luck with self inseminating?

I know that home insemination can work when done correctly. I just am curious are you using sperm from a 'friend' or is it actually donor sperm? Is there a reason why you are doing self insemination? Also I know that insemination doesnt increase your chances to concieve so it would take on average a year for a healthy person to concieve. I am not trying to ask a billion questions but need a little more info in order to be able to offer some advice

The sperm is from a freind, I tell him what days I need it and he comes over and supplies it right into my Diaphram. Then I insert the Diaphram, so the sperm is very fresh.
He is perfectly healthy, recent health exam, I even put his sperm in one of those home tests.
A reason I'm doing self-insemination? The main reason is that it is free. IUI from a Doctor is not cheap, they also want to have tons of tests done before they do an IUI... I can't afford all of that.

This to me seems like a fairly ineffective way to get pregnant. Where have you researched this? It seems like there would be some good sources on the web. . .off to look.

Twinzplus3...
Last year I forked out 300 for a consultation with a Fertility Specialist. I told him what I was doing and he said it has the exact same chances of success as a medical IUI. This is the method many Gay Women and HIV Positive Women use to get pregnant. You might recognise it as "the turkey baster method".

Okay. . .no need to get turkey basters involved. I'm really not very knowledgeble in this area. . .I read that you used some type of syringe (not the needle) but so that you're aiming at something per say. But I see how it could work I suppose. How many couples did that doc know who'd gotten pg that way?

I don't recall the actual statistics, just that it was the same as an IUI. For some reason 30% sticks in my head. I don't have the choice of BDing, so, I have to go the No Intercourse route. (Well, I could go pick up some stranger, but that would be pretty irresponsible and could be dangerous!)
This way, I know who the father is and have his Genetic Material at my beck and call.

My only question is I read another post where you stated that you had some medical conditions. Have you consulted your normal physician about the risks of pregnancy with your conditions? Also if this 'friend' is willing to give you his sperm have you talked about what happens if your medical condition gets worse. Is he going to act like a father? Do you have an arrangement worked out where you cant sue him for child support. I understand that want to be a mother. I have no question in my mind as to why you would want a child. But personally self insemination seems like a weird route to take. I have a lot of questions on this but dont want to seem too invasive

To be honest your Dr is VERY wrong. There is NO way that what your doing gives you the same chance of conception as an IUI. IUI stands for intra-uterine insemination. What you are doing is inter-cervical insemination. You are not bypassing your cervix to insert the sperm. If you did then the sperm would have to be cleaned to prevent severe infection and cramps. The chance for inter-cervical resulting in a pregnancy is less than 10%. IUI gives you an average of a 15-20% increase in conceiving depending on your health. If your donors sperm has not been checked then there is a good chance his count could be low. Which could explain why your not pregnant or if you yourself have not been checked then there could also be another problem. My advice is if you try for over a year and you dont get pregnant then the tests are worth the money. There could be an underlying problem that has not been checked out. I talk out of LOTS of experience so I am not pulling this information out of thin air. I wish you luck and I hope you get your BFP!
