Question Anyone else love BBQing or smoking?

I've been a smoker for just about a year now. I was given a Traeger Texas for Father's Day last year to replace the grill that died in a winter wind storm. I always thought that grilling and BBQing were the same thing.

Seems I was way wrong. Since starting up the Traeger last spring, I have smoked or BBQed at least twice a month. I have even made pizza out on it (it was incredible!)

Anyone else love BBQing or smoking?

We don't have a smoker but our neighbors do and boy are the ribs he cooks good. I think we should get one is it hard to learn how to cook on it? Making my mouth water just thinking about it.

I used to burn everything on the grill... several times I had to spray water on a meal that had caught fire... that is until we had a killer wind storm last winter that destroyed our grill.

I got a new BBQer for father's day and my whole grilling & BBQing world turned on its end. We got a Traeger. Let me be the first to say this is like no other - I kid you not. It isn't a grill - it is a BBQer and smoker (the difference being a grill is high heat that cooks fast and a BBQer (smoker) uses lower heat and cooks longer.)

A good pulled pork will cook out there for 10-16 hours! Not a huge deal because of the self feeding auger in the Traeger. It makes it sooo easy. Too easy it seems.

I have used it to cook pulled pork, ribs, salmon, burgers, chicken whole, chicken wings, and even pizza!

You just fill the hopper with the wood pellets of choice and set the temp on the dial (we got the digital thermometer).

Now we go down to the local meat market and get 20-30 lbs of pork shoulder (without bone) and make pulled pork. After 12 hours or so it falls after with a fork! We vac-seal it into meal sized portions for the freezer. It goes great in burritos, omlettes, sandwiches, soups, etc... Every single kid that has tried it loved it! My ultra picky nieces even asked for seconds!

It is incrediblly easy! Almost borders on the edge of set it and forget it cooking.

My husband loves to grill. He's gotten really good. Smoked brisket is his masterpiece. But we also smoke chicken, steaks, sausage, etc. Our next challenge is smoked turkey. My grandfather's smoked turkeys were the best. Wish I could have one again.
We used to watch the show "Barbeque University" on PBS and even got the show's cookbooks. They are really good. You might chekc them out... they are by Steve Reichlen.

Check out Dr. BBQs books, too.
