Question Anyone have a baby with Torticolis?

We took Robert in for his 2 month exam. We got him his 1st round of vaccines and also found out that he has Torticolis. It's where the muscles on one side of the neck are too tight and their head tends to turn to one side when they are laying down.
Robert will have to go to physical therapy to help get these muscles loosened up. We also have to help turn his head the other way here at home.
I was just wondering how common this was. Anyone have a child with this? How much physical therapy did your baby have to have before it was corrected?

I have a good friend on another board whose 7 month old DD is in therapy for this. She ended up with a helmet to help her flat head, too. I think she's been in therapy for a few months now.

ive heard of something like this....what i heard of was the infant only slept with their heads one way all the time...it would cause the flat head Lisa was talking about, and if the head is turned the same way it would cause the muscles to stiffen that way...did they tell you to try to turn his head while he was sleeping, switch it with every nap?

Be very careful not to let him get a flat spot on his head. The neck muscle thing is very common and easily corrected. So don't worry. Just keep an eye on his head to make sure he isn't getting a flat spot.

He has a little bit of a flat spot, but not too severe. We are now on top of his sleeping and laying positions now. Making him turn his head the other way. I just put him down for the night and he's laying how he should be. I feel bad for not catching this sooner.
He'll go in for physical therapy at Texas Childrens. I'm making an appt tomorrow.

ditto to PP

not your fault, how would you know you would have to turn his head? Not like you are standing over him all night/day waiting for him to do it himself!! My girls are both belly and back sleepers, which means they switch so often I didnt have to worry about this...my grandmother is the one who told me to do so...otherwise i wouldnt have known either

DS is 10 months old and he had a flat spot on his head... it was really bad and he had some stiffening of the muscles, because I too didnt know that you had to move the head. But once I started moving it (and once he became more active) the neck loosened up and his flat spot rounded out a bit. He didn't have to have physical therapy or anything but it is a very common thing his pediatrician said. He still has a bit of a flat spot on one side of his head but i think its more noticeable to me than anyone else

Thanks gals... Robert has an appointment tomorrow with the therapist to be evaluated. He will have Xrays... standard thing. And then they will see how much will need to be done. I hope and pray that it's not too serious. I don't think it is, but the Dr's will decide that.
I'm actually in physical therapy for my back. I injured it putting him in the car in the car seat. Like mom, like son I guess.
Robert had his 2 month check up the other day and got a lot of shots... poor thing... bad day for him. I hate that he might have another bad day tomorrow. My son is not having a good introduction to Dr's.
