Anyone have any frugal moving tips?
Hi. We are moving in less than 30 days. I have all of my free boxes, but I was wondering if anyone had any good tips for saving money on this move.

Instead of wrapping things in paper (which you may have needed to buy) ask the neighbours for old newspapers to wrap precious items or even better use your linen to wrap up your breakables. That way you've packed your valuables safely and your linen also.

Guys will work for beer!
(Just make sure they get it AFTER they've moved all your valuables.)

Pack a suitcase like you are going on a trip for essentials - change of clothing, pjs, towels/washclothes, toothbrushes, shampoo, toiletries, so you can easily get showered & dressed the first day in your new home.
Last box to be loaded are things you'll need immediately - toilet paper, soap, paper plates, cups, drinks, garbage bags, vaccum, etc.
1st thing to do in your new home - assemble your beds and place on clean linens. You'll be tired by bedtime and everything ready for you to go to sleep.
Good luck!

Cheap Mover
So I'm new here...and I know this was an old post...but I just moved myself and had some good tips I thought I would share in hopes that someone would find them useful...
-Pack linens, pillows, clothes and any other soft items in Trash Bags...it may not look glamorous but it works, and in most cases the bags are still good enough to use for trash when they're unpacked (I got my bags nearly FREE too with mail in rebates and such)
-Yes, its true, most friends will help you move for Pizza & Beer (or other beverage of choice)
-No matter how well you think you've packed glass ware & valuables, transport them in your own vehicle. Unfortunately some of my friends didn't read my giant FRAGILE labels and broke all of my glassware...causing me to have to re-purchase much of it
-Use plastic grocery sacks as filler (packing "peanuts") in your boxes. Once again, they can still be repurposed after you un pack.
-To save time label every box/bag with what it contains and what room it should be placed in. If you can get your movers to put them in the correct rooms to begin with it is less work for you later dragging boxes around the house
-MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE! Trust me on this one. Know the dimensions of all doors & hallways....AND the dimensions of your furniture. There is nothing worse than getting your favorite couch to your new house and it wont fit in the door.
-Be critical when packing. This is a great time to clean out your house. Being the pack-rat that I am I had a very full house of stuff I didn't use. I loaded up nearly 10 boxes plus larger items to Garage sale or take to charity before I moved. The extra cash from the sale even helped pay for the moving expenses I did have...plus it cut down the amount I had to move by nearly 1/3!
-Sometimes investing in plastic storage totes is worth it. A friend of mine and I each have a stash of them and we share when we need to. Especially since we're both recently out of college and moved about 4 times in the past 5 years!
-Finally, don't be afraid to ask family and friends if they have moving supplies you can use/borrow. I was able to get yards of bubble wrap from my inlaws who had just bought new furniture.
GOOD LUCK

The plastic grocery bags I am using now. Unfortunately, I am moving long distance, and have to put my fragile things on the truck. My collection of glassware simply won't fit in the car, along with my cat and my doll collection. And I am donating stuff like crazy. Moving in a week.

I have always wrapped in newspapers and never had anything broken. If you have the large removalist company type cartons they can be sold back to removalists after the move if in good condition as they mostly are.
