Thumbs down AP Parents Unite and Complain to ABC!!!

The season finale of Supernanny on ABC hits at the core of AP philosophy. Mom wears her 14 month baby and still breastfeeds frequently. Jo (the "supernanny") admonishes her for her terrible parenting skills saying "She's 14 months and you've got her attached to you like koala bears!" and "If she's not on her hip, she's hanging off of her breast" while the announcer quips "Somebody give that baby a bottle!"

This is a perfect example of entertainment influencing negative trends in child rearing. Go to http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html to lodge a complaint for this low blow to the values we hold dear.

Supernanny aires Monday, March 12 at 8/7 central pm on ABC.

I've have never seen the episode, I did see a similar episode by the sounds of things but the child in question was 4 and a half. I think the point is, if the family asked for help then the parents themselves may not have been happy with the situation and wanted it changed. If what you say is true, then announcers quip was unnessessary though. Supernanny isn't and hasn't ever been about AP concepts.

I did see the commercial. I watch the show frequently, and sometimes disagree with Jo (the nanny) does. I was pretty PO'd when I saw the ad, but just decided not to watch that episode.

I too have to agree with Mollymae. These parents invited her into their house bc they weren't happy with the situation. I think that perhaps had the parents researched their decision to AP better they wouldn't struggle with what seems to me to be normal 14 mos behaviors. I likely will not watch either.

Besides should a 14 month old be on a bottle anyhow if they had been on the bottle in the first place?

Seriously if the parents were having issues and they needed help of course Jo is going to make comments on the situation and what she sees as the problem. Like Twinz said obviously they didn't do the whole thing right in the first place or else they'd not have the issues.

You can't judge if you don't watch and if it truely bothers some people then it's easy not to turn it on.

On a side note, this is just a show, isn't there more concerning things in this world to get worked up about?

This is exactly why I don't watch Supernanny! I also never take parenting advice from people who have no children. It may be just a show, but unfortunately mothers listen to this garbage. I'd hate to see a mother force wean her little toddler after seeing an episode like this! That is the issue, IMO. I have seen a few of these shows and while some of her advice is o.k., some is just absurd.
