Question Are We Waiting Too Long To Have Babies?

I had my two girls in my thirties (late thirties) and a friend has been trying for several years and is despondent that she hasn't conceived yet. Sometimes we wait, even though we are married, for the perfect time and place and finacial security to have children. Sometimes we don't have a choice - for instance I had several disasterous relationships with men who weren't father material before I found my husband and we made the big leap.
I wonder if, in general, we are waiting too long to have kids? How will my kids benefit (or not) from having an older mom?
