Default At what age can a person first get pregnant?

I got a question. At what age can a person first get pregnant? I just found out that my next door neighbor won't be going to church today because she's knocked up and feeling very sick.

My next door neighbor is 11 and I really didn't think people could get pregnant that young. The baby's daddy is apparently going to be her mom's friend's son.

Next question. This girl is extremely small for her age. She is only about 3 1/2 - 4 feet tall and very small all the way around. How on earth will the baby actually fit in her? It just doesn't seem possible.

I am just so blown away by all this. It made me really curious. I wonder what she is going to look like towards the end of her pregnancy. She'll be nothing but a stomach!

you can get pregnent has soon as you start your monthlys and has for being small that should not cause no problems but she may have to have a c section to deliver . my mother is 4 foot and she had 2 c sections due to her pelvis being to small but alot of people go on to have them naturally surely you must be doing sex education at school . and where was the girls parents when this was going on. i know you can not bewith your children 24/7 but she should of explained things to her daughter

I overheard my mom and her mom talking this morning. I don't have a lot of details. It just shocked me that someone can get pregnant that young or while that small.

I don't think they know when it happened. Her daughter and this guy are good friends and hang out a lot at each others house. They have even been to our house several times. I am just guessing. But I thinking both parents were probably somewhere nearby. Both their parents were very protective. I just think they were kept in the dark or something.

Isn't c section where they cut you open? That sounds horrible! Actually giving birth at all sounds horrible! If I was that small I'd want an abortion. And I don't even believe in abortion. To me it just seems extremely scary.

The worst part about all this is that little girl hasn't finished growing yet. Carrying and delivering a child when her own bones haven't finished growing yet is going to put an amazing strain on her body.
Shazbo is right, except for the fact that you can actually get pregnant before you ever have a period. If you hit it on your very first ovulation, just before your first period - surprise! Baby. Age really has nothing to do with it. Girls are starting their periods much earlier now. There are 9 and 10-year-olds starting their periods now. And with that comes all the hormones and urges that one didn't have to deal with until they hit their teens. It is a very dangerous world if you don't know what's going on.

Yes--they cut you open to have a c-section. I would think because of her age they'd almost have to. Labor is an incredibly emotionally & physically difficult. And like cocotbo said, it's gotta be incredibly hard on a body that's not finished growing.

I was going to say what Cocotbo did about getting pregnant before your first period. Girls do ovulate before then. I wonder if there are other complication risks for those who have babies when they themselves are so tiny?

C-cections are when they cut you open. This happens sometimes when the pelvis is too narrow for the baby to fit out. It happens for other reasons too like emergency deliveries. The hormonal changes in an 11 year old are hard enough, I couldn't imagine having been pregnant at 11!

To answer some other's questions hear about where the parents were, there are many kids that have sex in the home when their parents are there by going into a room and keeping the door shut. Or even in the yard at night. Many parents might believe because they are home with thier child, their child wouldn't do anything like that behind a closed door. SO UNTRUE. Kids area smart and I think some have figured this out--or at least thought the risk was worth it. I imagine some parents wouldn't think their 11 year old would be interested in engaging in sex at that age. There are lots of speculations in my mind as to how this could have happened. I wish this girl good health.

This entire situation just really weirds me out. If I was her age and her size I would be so unbelievably scared right now. The thought of them actually cutting me open is about one of the scariest things I can think of next to exploding because the baby couldn't come out.

I don't know what she was thinking, but I don't think she knew what the hell she was doing. I feel bad for her mom too. Her mom was crying when she was talking to my mom.

I have just never heard of something like this happening before. I know a girl at my school who is pregnant, but its high school and most people are doing it. I'd be surprised if I didn't know someone pregnant. But back in her age I didn't know ANYONE having sex. Not a single person.

I'm thinking it never crossed the girl's mind that she would be having sex. I would never think of an 11 year old that way. I would probably think of it as an innocent friendship. By the way, how old is the boy?

No one here can say she will have to have a C-cection because none of us are qualified to make that call. The likeliness may be there for it though. When mothers are told before hand by their dr. that they'll require a c-cection, the mom gets scheduled for it. There isn't usually the hours of labor unless something else happens. The mother is numb and can't feel her surgery. More often, I think the mom's focus is on her baby rather than on her tummy.
