Default Atkins Diet

Has anyone had any success on the Atkins Diet?

I found it worked really well for me. It was the one diet that didn't limit my portions and allowed me to feel satisfied after a meal. I also found that keeping starchy carbohydrates out of my life helped me to feel much more energetic.

Have you tried this diet and if so, how did it work for you?

Hi Marky,

Every body is different but some peoples' bodies really react badly to too many starchy carbohydrates (bread, potatoes, white rice, etc.). The Atkins diet calls for very few starchy carbohydrates and requires you to get your carbohydrates from vegetables instead.

When people think of the Atkins diet, they generally think of the "induction phase" (the initial 2 weeks on the diet) when you are allowed to eat as much meat, cheese and vegetables as you like.

To be perfectly honest, I loathed Atkins. I followed the very specific regimen cutting out all the excess starches, went from sugar to Splenda, stopped drinking caffeine and managed my induction phase and then onwards to the subsequent stages and did this for two and a half months.
I lost five pounds and was incredibly grumpy for a while till I got off the caffeine and after that, I was just plain bored and frustrated with it. I watched my husband lose forty pounds in the same time period, doing nothing.
I've lost more through exercise and portion control than I ever did on Atkins, but a lot of it has to do with body type, metabolism and genetics. Unfortunately, my genetics are working against me, but I'm getting where I want to be one foot on the treadmill at a time.
