Laundry soap is a great idea! I had a friend who was having a baby shower and she got a little laudry basket with baby laundry soap, some baby blankets, and other goodies in it. We all know that the laundry never ends! Sometimes you are doing baby loads 2 times a day!

It really depends on your budget. You can get a great diaper cake on the internet or make one yourself. The downside to making one is that it will take time and energy...something that could add meaning to the gift. JMHO
