We just hired our first outside of the family babysitter a few weeks ago. She only had to watch one child for 4 hours, and she charged us $10.00 per hour. Personally, I thought it was a little much. But what do I know? Like I said, this was the first time we've used someone outside of our family to babysit, and I guess that's the going rate now. Yikes.

Ykies is right. 10 a hour for one kid is too much.
It depends on the situation here. I have someone lined up to watch the kids and it will be 250 a week for two kids. Going rate here in Michgian is about 150 per week per kid on the low side and up to 200 per week per kid.

Yeah...I thought $10.00 per hour was pretty extreme too! She's a young teen that attends our church, and she's a sweet kid. But after that expensive experience...she won't be babysitting for us again.

I used to nanny for a family who payed me $11 an hour plus they payed health insurance. I would say I had it made. They are a wealthy family here in Florida. They dont need a nanny anymore. But I still watch there dd sometimes and they still pay me $11. I am still very close to their family.

I would say the going rate would be around $9.00-$11.00 an hour. All of are family lives around us so I have never had to pay anyone to watch are kids. Yet! Lol.

I would assume rates differ from place to place BUT
TO me it seems logical that you pay more for the more children you have and the younger they are. My 7 yo is not nealry as difficult to watch as one of the twins. I would not, in a gazillion years pay someone $11/hour to watch my 7yo and 5yo. Even in New York City. Of course I'm not wealthy either-

pmsl you obviously are all from america??? in aussie if you go for a job for babysitting and its under $12 an hour for one child then it would be classed as bad pay. i loooked after 3 girls and got $20 an hour.not sure what that converts into though so it might be the same for all i know.

I started watching this little girl when she was 6wks old. She is now 9yrs old. I think your right it depends on where you live and the type of family you work for or have working for you.
