Unhappy Bad Dreams...

I went to bed last night terrified...

Thursday night dh and I went to our "birthing class" that was really just and orientation and tour of the birthing center... which was fine. That's all I really wanted. The teacher answered some of my questions especially one in particular. I wanted to know if I was allowed someone in the room with me when I get the epidural. BFN... as in BIG FAT NO! I'm terrified of needles!! So last night I was laying in bed half asleep kind of day dreaming about being in labor and having the epidural when I went into like a deep sleep and dreamt that I had the epidural. Jayson was allowed in the room at first and the teacher lady was the nurse and she literally kicked him out of the room leaving me screaming for him while I had this needle put into my back...

Needless to say it was a really bad dream. I'm really scared about it now... I know that I'm being irrational but doesn't help me out... I'm really scared now. I don't know if I can actually deliver this baby....

Irrational fear is the definition of a phobia Whit lol. Try not to stress about it -- they tend to be very very supportive when doing the epi because they know there's a lot of anxiety associated with it (I had one on Gabriel, and they were really great). It may even be an idea to let them know beforehand that you're going to want the epi but are afraid of needles... they'll know better how to help you then. Don't worry, you'll make it!

yeah sure Dee... I don't know... Jayson doesn't want me to have one... the reason being is a girl he went to school with was driving after she had an epi for her labor and ended up going completely numb while driving and he had to pull her out of the car once the instructor stopped the car. It scared him and he's terrified I'm going to end up paralized.... I know I'm going to need it but at the same time.... I need him or my mom in the room with me... I'm too much of a wimp... I'm thinking if I beg enough I will talk someone into it... lol

I think my mom was allowed to stay in the room with me for my epi... Can't remember for sure, some of the details at that point are a little fuzzy lol. I know if you're actually in the operating room and getting a spinal for a c/s nobody's allowed in with you, but I think the L&D rooms are a little different... Try talking to your OB about it at your next appt to find out for sure.

Also, remind your DH that there are horror stories for every situation; it doesn't mean it happens often, or that it's going to happen to you, and he needs to be fair about what you want and need at that point. I had absolutely no problems after my epi/spinal. In all honesty, once he sees you in labor, he may jump at the chance for you to have the epi lol. Plus, you don't know until you're there in the middle of things whether you'll need one -- fingers crossed, you could end up with a really easy labor and not even bother with it!

Gotta love those great late pg dreams!

I wonder why they won't let hubby in the room with you? When I had my 1st 2 kids DH was right there. In fact, I rested my face on his chest while they did it. I couldn't have one this past time, so I guess things could have changed.

Good luck, you will do just fine.

APPARENTLY.... lol

About a year ago, in the state of Va, a man was in the room with his wife while she was having an epi put in and he fainted. When he fainted he hit his head on a table, had a brain aneryiusm and died instantly... so now they won't let you have anyone in the room... I will try and talk to my dr about it but I dunno...

It was simply a dream. That is all.

Birthing a baby is a very normal, natural process. You are young and healthy.

Every day thousands and thousands of women birth babies acrossed the USA (and the world.) Many of them have epidurals and no problems at all.

At this moment, I'm thinking that the OB RN was in the room with me when I had my epidurals and she was wonderful! She helped me with my breathing to try to relax during the process.

If you need an epidural, it is available.

It is not up to your DH or anybody else,
if you need it, you get it.

Think happy thoughts! (((Hugs)))
