Default Bad eating habits start early

Do your parents, or other people, give your child things to eat that you don't think they should have? For example..cheese puffs. My mom does it all the time, and will keep doing it no matter what I say or do. I even bought some of the ones that Gerber Graduates makes, and she'll still give her the Cheetos ones. Honestly, I don't think all that sodium could be good for her. Yes, its cute when she smiles and reaches for one and says "Pu..Pu.." (for "puff"). But in the long run its just not the kind of eating habit I want for my child. (I was real overweight as a child, and don't want my dd to go through what I did!) My dad gives her chocolate milk when I'm not around. My brother tells me all these things. (He had the same weight issues too as a child and is on my side on this one.) The list goes on and on. Someone please help me out with a very cunning speech about the dangers of those kinds of foods, that will change both their minds!

I had the same problem when I was living with my parents. I think that they wanted to spoil Alejandro and would say yes to things I said no to. The only thing I can suggest is tell them to respect you. Remind your mom how it was like when she had you and everyone told her what to do...I would also tell her of your concerns about the wieght issue. I ahve found that with Alejandro I have treats in the house and most of them are healthy...Alejandro's firends think he is wierd when he thinks that strawberries and Yougurt are a treat. We have raised him to make healthy choices...he is very well aware of foods that are not good for you and preferes fruit (not all the time) to "junk".

Just Voice your concerns to your mom and ask her to respect you as a mother. I know she probably wants to spoil her only grandbaby BUT she needs to respect your decisions

My in-laws as well as my mother are pretty respectful of our wishes regarding eating. But I've had babysitters do that. (Which is easier to deal wtih IMO.) But I agree with lessly, tell them they need to respect you, and your concerns about the weight. I also loved Ovaltine btw.

Yep-and if they cannot respect you, then don't leave her with them unattended. I'm a stinker like that with my kids...my parents and in-laws are expected to behave the way I want them to with my children. If they don't, then they don't get to see them. My bil, for example, HAS to wear his shirt all the time around my girls, because he has one heck of a nasty tattoo of two women performing oral sex on each other on his chest. ONE time he was shirtless in front of my girls, and I went off like a rocket.

I'm a mother. I'm not trying to win a popularity contest.

No one does this with my babies. Every now and then a relative will give something like that to my older kids, but I'm ok with it, since they don't have tons of junk all the time. But the baby, no one feeds him ANYTHING but me. That's a big rule in our family because I am very picky about what they eat when they are little. No cake until the first birthday party!
