Default Bad Lips...Maybe you can help??

Hey there,
Im new to this site, so i figured i would see if it works!
My problem is this: Winter is coming, and so are the dry, peeling lips. I know that preventing them from coming in contact with the wind is important (which I try my best to do), but everything I seem to try doesnt work...my lips keep getting dryer and dryer, and then eventually start to crack. It hurts.
As a re**** of this, my lips become VERY VERY red...almost to the point where in pictures I appread to be wearing bright red lipstick. Chapstick, lip balm, all that kind of stuff never seems to work!
I was wondering if anyone out there has had this similar problem (im sure there is a ton of people out there!!) and what you did to at least reduce the redness..I cant stand it, it makes me VERY self-conscience about taking pictures around christmas time! Hopefully there is a "wonder product" out there that can help me, chapstick just doesnt do the trick!
Thanks for hearing me out!!

Welcome to Families, can you put a good coat of vaseline before you go to bed to keep your lips moist at night, maybe that could help... Sorry i don't know...

Do you have a humidifier in your room? my skin (all of it) get so overly dry in the winter and i found having a humidifier in my bedroom helps out a ton. When i have the heat running full force i keep the humidifier on 24/7. That helps me out a ton!

Thanks for the advice! Ill dig out my old humidifier and give that a shot! Any advice on how to reduce the redness though?? Or will that come hand in hand with the hydration process (humidifier/vaseline)? I dont think vaseline would work the best as a toss and turn quite a bit at night, it would probably end up on my pillow more than my lips! haha!

the redness should go away, but i know licking your lips a lot causes this.i use some sort of chapstick every night before bed (i have a habit of licking my lips when they get dry which makes it worse)...that and lotion on my hands and feet because they get very dry and cracked as well...if u use vaseline just apply it a little bit before bed, but its even better if u use it before you go out in the cold (esp if its windy out) hope it gets better

I used to be addicted to chapstick but actually I have found two things that seem to work well for me so you could try them. I like the Lip Medex by Blistex...comes in a round blue container. Its like a medicated lip balm and has a nice cooling effect - I like to use that at night, it's not as greasy as Vaseline. I also really like the Mary Kay Lip treatment, I forget the exact name. It has a gritty gel you rub on first and it gets rid of the dry, dead skin and then a balm that goes on next and I have found between those two things I really don't use much on my lips at all any more! Oh and for the redness during the day maybe rub a light coat of foundation on your lips? Hope that helps!

At the risk of sounding cynical - if you or your partner are going to post advertising the "wonder product" please don't bother.

If you are a real person with chapped lips and nothing to sell, welcome.

i get those red red red chapped lips when the weather changes. it gets worse, as somebody already pointed out, when i lick my lips. i found that the blistex herbal therapy helped me, and it dulls that red color. i know how bad that hurts, it just happened to me last week!

as for the "wonder product" comment, im not trying to sell anything...im just wondering if anyone has stumbled across a great product (over the counter or just in the general isles of the grocery store) that i have never heard of. I dont know about much beyond your everyday chap stick!!
Thanks so much for the advice so far, I'll be sure to try that Mary Kay stuff (if i can find it) and give it a try! Why not right? Having pale skin doesnt help the problem either once i think about it..red on white sticks out like nothing! ha ha! I could always try getting a tan as well..ha ha!
Thanks again!!!!
