Angry Bah

After weeks and weeks of burning, stabbing pain during and after nursing, and doctors repeatedly telling me that it was normal and not thrush (and me not believing it), I am officially fed up.

I finally managed to get in to the BFing support group today -- a couple of viruses made the rounds in our household, so we missed the last two weeks (much to my chagrin, otherwise things might have been resolved sooner). As soon as the lactation consultant came over, I described what was going on: really (really) painful letdown, and shooting/stabbing/burning pains that get progressively worse towards the end of a feeding and keep hurting between feedings. Let's just say -- TMI and pardon the description, but it's true -- feeling like a sewing needle is being pulled out through your breast while your child is nursing is NOT the most enjoyable pastime, let me assure you.

Anyhow, a few questions about the location and type of pain (which I've described to my dr, minus the needle bit -- that intensified this week) and whether I'm prone to yeast infections in general (which I am, extremely, something my dr knows full well) and the LC handed me a printout on nipple/duct thrush with a recommendation that I be treated with Fluconazole (which I've previously asked about). She and the other nurses more than quirked an eyebrow when I told them my dr said this pain was "normal".

I will be very cheerfully handing that printout to my dr in the morning, along with a "Treat me. NOW."

I am supremely ticked off. I've been saying for weeks -- literally weeks -- that I thought I might have thrush in my milk ducts. I've been going through rounds of pain on a daily basis. And all because these stupid doctors don't want to listen to a nursing mother who previously BFed for 13mos and dealt with thrush before and never had this type of pain with it -- but no, I don't know what I'm talking about (note extreme sarcasm lol).

ACK. And I've been calling around to try and find a new GP, with no success -- nobody is taking new patients!
