Is he ready? My biggest piece of advice is to wait until you see clear signs of readiness as opposed to starting at a specific age.
Then just let them run around naked or in training underwear so that when they're wet or poopy--they're really wet or poopy. While wearing underwear, have him sit on the potty frequently. It won't be long before he'll catch on.
Boy or girl? I found with my 1st son training for pee was a lot easier then poo...he hated being dirty and would try to take his diaper off when he bacame wet... he was 2 1/2 as well...but he was ready and wanted to get trained. I suggest trying for now and IF he/she isn't interested then waiting for later...you don't want to push it as it will make it a lot harder to train him/her.

She is showing signs of readiness..as a matter of fact, she has actually pooed in the potty once..when we first brought it home, she asked for it, I set it up and she went..but she hasn't since and I haven't pushed. We are wanting to actively start soon so I guess I am lost as to how to begin actively doing it..lol
I agree...begin naked. She will start to show steady signs when she is ready. Her pediatrician said no to start until 27 months, but she was 33 months when she showed she was interested. I started taking her to the bathroom with me.
