Default Belly button draining?

Okay so Skylar's "stump" of her cord fell off within a wek of me having her home, but her belly is draining. It doesn't look infected but why is it still draining almost 3 weeks later? I clean it at bath times and my mom recommended putiing alcohol on it to dry it up, but do you guys have any insight on this? With the boys it took longer for the stump to fall off and it never had drainage after the fact. Why is it doing this?

Sounds like your Mom gave you good advise by putting alcohol on it to dry it up.

Don't put bathwater on it to wash it.

Use clean soap & water only for that spot. Then dry, use the alcohol.

Ditto. . .ime, my babies' whose stumps fell off earlier drained more. Stumps that kind of slowly but surely came off drained less.

Our baby had the same thing with her belly button continuing to ooze a little even after several weeks, and our pediatrician ended up cauterizing it because she said sometimes that's the only way to get it to stop. She charged something like $100 to do it, but it was fast and insurance covered it. Strange, huh?

One of my twins had something similar when they were in the hosp and her pedi treated it with Silver Nitrate a few times and it worked. Hers fell off way to early though and it looked awful! But hers ended up being an umbilical hernia and she now has a little outtie.

Aiden had this too! It took 3-4 wks for his cord to fall off...doc said it sometimes happens. She also put nitrate on it and told us to use alcohol to clean it...it fell off soon after wards.
