Best Children's Books
Some of my favorite children's books are by Max Lucado:
You Are Special
Every day Wemmicks do the same thing--either stick gold stars or gray dots on one another. The pretty ones, those with smooth wood and fine paint, always get stars. Others, though, who can do little or who have chipped paint, get the dots.
Just In Case You Ever Wonder
Here's everything you'd like to say to your children about how much you love them; how special they are; how you'll always be there for them; and most of all, how special they are to God. Max Lucado shares his bedtime promises to his own children.
Just the Way You Are
This newly illustrated release about a king and three orphans communicates that children don't need to try to impress God, who simply longs to spend time with them just as they are. Originally published as, The Children of The King.
With You All the Way
Max Lucado's beloved story, originally published as The Song of the King, has been freshly illustrated for a brand new generation of kids. A timeless tale about the most important choice on your journey through life.
What are your favorite stories to read to children?

Books that smile and inspire
This is a subject close to my heart.
My all time favorite children's book is called Bamboozled. The illustrations are phenomenal and I can't say much more about it except that it's based on a little girl's visit to her eccentric grandfather's magical wonderful home.
Another is by Jeannie Baker, an Australian woman who has won dozens of awards for her collage illustrations and environmental themes. The Window is simply the scene from a child's bedroom. The first year the window looks out on rolling hills and farm animals. The years tick by and by the last page, the window looks out onto a major city street. beautiful book.
As for books for older children, I can't go past Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time.
I also like Tuck Everlasting (the book, haven't seen the movie).
Anyone know of any others that are timeless?

Some of my favorites:
Anything Eric Carle has written and illustrated.
Most titles by Robert Munsch. The Paper Bag Princess was beloved by little girls in my daycare group. The little boys liked the dragon and the idea of dressing up in paper bags. We also enjoyed "Where is Ga Ning?"
Just us Women, by Jeannette Caines
Stella Luna by Janell Canon
Where the Wild things are by Maurice Sendak (especially the little boy named Max loved this one)
Bread Bread Bread by Ann Morris. Also Hats Hats Hats
Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey
More More More Said the Baby by Vera Williams (my youngest used to think this book was about him because one of his nicknames was "little guy")
Those Mean Nasty Dirty Downright Disgusting but INVISIBLE Germs by Judith Rice. Has great photographs of a 5 year old girl eating and washing her hands, and fantastic illustrations of make believe germs by Reed Merrill. The kids really loved the pictures in this one.
And a great matter of fact book about where babies come from - How You Were Born, by Joanna Cole.
Story time was a favorite activity at my house - and we would do stories all day long if we wanted.
My youngest boy also liked "The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher" by Beatrix Potter. He thought it was 'citing. Again and again. He also liked "the Runaway Bunny" and his family nickname is "Bunny" because he used to hide to make me come find him.

I'll take just about any Dr. Seuss book. My kids are hypnotized by them. Green Eggs and Ham remains my all-time favorite. What's yours?

STARFISH -new children's book by Jett of Sister Hazel
Jett from Sister Hazel has written a children’s book called “Starfish” …it comes packaged with a CD full of lullabies …just long enough for your little ones to fall asleep.
The book is based on the lyrics to the song “Starfish,” which is featured on the band’s platinum-selling album, “Somewhere More Familiar.”
Already ordered a copy to send to my kids … illustrations look really nice.

We read books constantly - the boys are bookworms (like their mom) for sure! Our favorites this week are:
Five Green and Speckled Frogs (we sing the lyrics)
Love You Forever (a real tear-jerker)
Llama, Llama Mad at Mama
Put Me in the Zoo (Dr. Seuss)
The Wide-Mouthed Frog
If you Give a Moose a Muffin (or any books along that same line)
We have about 100 kids books in the house (I pick them up from garage sales, or from the $1 section of Vince's book order). We love variety
