Best Friend
Here is a question that often comes up during marriage counseling: Is your spouse your best friend? When a husband or wife cannot honestly say yes to that question there are problems in the relationship that need to be worked on. Being able to go to your spouse with a problem, knowing he/she will listen and give open and honest feedback is important in any relationship, even with your kids. Parents do not want their children to lie, but the parents often lie to each other to either save face, or simply try and get out getting caught. When you tell that lie, you are going to tell more in order to cover up the first lie, and is that really what you want your children to learn?
Find out what your spouse, girlfriend, or whomever thinks, and be honest with them. Be open and express your feelings. Men do not fall into that trap "big boys don't cry" because it will do you a world of good to express those tears, and let people see you are human.
