Default Beware of..."Bassett Baby Crib", Wendy Bellisomo Convertable Crib

On Thursday 20 SEP 07 my wife and I awoke to my baby, 13 months old at 24 lbs, screaming and hearing a banging noise. It was more unusual than her early morning wake ups, she’s usually all smiles and happy. My wife looked into the video monitor and believed the crib was broken. I ran in the room and to my disbelief the crib separated at one top corner. She was screaming because her hand was being hit from holding the side rail with her right hand and with her left hand hanging onto the front rail that came loose. Unknown to her, she was pinching her fingers. It was obvious then that the hole drilled to secure the rails together was too close to the edge. When they manufactured the crib and put an anchor or bushing into the hole, it just cracked the wood making it a time bomb. There are stress cracks on 3 top corners of the crib were the bolts enters. This whole crib could have fallen apart. We never even noticed this assembling this crib. If we had not noticed this in our monitor, she might have tried to get out and possibly get trapped. Thank God she was O.K. It could have been a disaster.
Tuesday, 09OCT07, after many of many phone calls and emails to the CPSC they finally sent an investigator to my house. They took my baby’s crib, wife in tears and all. This was more a sentimental issue now. Our baby started in this and it was to convert to a larger bed as she grew older
Wednesday, 24OCT07, Toys R Us Corporate informed me that this crib was taken out of their Babies R Us Stores.
This has situation occurred 39 days ago. I have been on this one man crusade to do something about it.
I when I have been able to, I have entered internet forums, contacted media, and even my congressman to get the word out. I believe so far I have had over 3,000 people view my forums. I had started a MySpace page with some details and a bunch of pictures..that address is myspace.com/wendybellisimobasett I have not been able to sleep throughout a night since this has happened. I wake up in the middle of the night taking notes of questions to ask different people.
I am worried something may happen to some unsuspecting family and that I have not done enough.
I won't stop until they announce this to the public

Your myspace link is turning up as cancelled.

I have seen your posts on other forums. They seem to dissappear in some places.

I'll leave this up for a while, to see if anyone else has a similiar experience with this crib. Could it be that this individual crib was damaged, or is it a manufacturing error?

I was wondering the same thing...I have never heard of this being recalled at all. I know a while back some cribs where recalled but I can't find a recall for ths kind.

The op did not say they were recalled. He said that the company was removing the model from the store.

Default Just Wait....

The CPSC told me last week positive steps were being taken.... They said they would notify me first, so I am on pins and needles right now. I just can't believe it is taking so long.
Joe Bellissimo contacted me himself and was astonished by my pics.
My myspace is still working....it's myspace.com/wendybellisimobassett
I accidentally spelt Bellissimo with 1 s in it!!!!
As far as other problems on record. The CPSC told me I had to fill out forms and that they were still working on it... Who knows,,,Bassett could have told so many others it was an isolated issue like they told me and no one else followed through.

Thanks! If that picture is of the break, it is truly disturbing. Your myspace is working now. Computers just love being literal.

The question is - if it is an isolated incident, is the flaw in the product, the design, or something with this individual crib. If it's a design flaw, then it will affect others.

I'd like to hear from others knowledgeable about this crib.

Default The crack

That crack in the wood was visible at 3 top corners of the crib after the CPSC dismantled it... We didn't notice it at all when we assembled it...
This line of cribs came out in 2005...So it's fairly new....My daughter is at 100% in the height and wieght scale for her age... So others just catching up could be at risk.
