So when do you start using belly balm or creams for stretch marks? What kind are you using ? Is lotion better then the oils?
Just woundering

My friend used Sorbalene cream when she was pg and started using it straight away and she didn't get any stretch marks at all. I reckon I'd start using it as soon as I found out I was pg that way your skin is nice and soft before you start getting a belly.

Where I live, we have a local, handmade soap and body product shop. They have this great balm in stick form called "Mama's Belly Balm". It's great, and it really stays on! It smells like lavender too. I love it!!

Hate to tell you Peanut, but I rubed every cream imaginable into my belly when I was pregnant with DD#1 , And I mean everything..I was greased up Like a pig on the spit! my doctor said my stretch marks were the worst he has ever seen. I looked like I had been attacted by a lion or something! I had them (an really still do!) from my pelvic bone almost to my boobs. I had tiger stripes! Only thing I can suggest for stretch maerks is watch your wieght gain and keep it steady not balloning to quick. The creams do help stop the itching that does occure when your skin stretches. I can not stress enough DO NOT scratch! Its also a nice way of relaxing and getting touch with your pregnant body. try some Palmers cocoa Butter and Vitamin E cream. I used both and emu oil and aloe vera gel too! Good luck!

I think that is what it boils down too.. Your skin type. How fast you pop out ect. I used balms with my other two and still have stretch marks. Doc says there really is'nt anything that will prevent them if your gonna get them your gonna get them.

Re: Bey Balm's
i agree w/ mciver... sadly genetics is really what will or will not prevent streach marks :-\ - i'm betting i will not escape the wrath of mommy marks but i do use palmers cocoa butter every night and aveeno with oatmeal every morning and afternoon more so because it' feels nice and makes for bonding time with the belly ;D i've been using it since i was 5wks...

How can I tell if I'll get them?
It depends mostly on how elastic your skin is, and that's a matter of genetics. If your mother or sister got stretch marks during pregnancy, you're more likely to. Whether you'll get them also depends on how much and how fast your skin has to stretch during your pregnancy. "The skin is very elastic, but the weight gain that comes with pregnancy can be pretty dramatic, and sometimes it's more than the skin can handle," explains Alexa Boer Kimball, an assistant professor of dermatology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. For this reason, you're more likely to get stretch marks if:
• You gain a lot of weight rapidly.
• You're carrying multiples.
• You're carrying a big baby.
• You have excess amniotic fluid.
