Default bicornuate uterus

o.k, so first of all, my husband and i have been trying to conceive for just over 2 years now. I am 27, he is 30. I started fertility testing and was recentlly diagnosed with a bicornaute uterus. I have been reading about the other women who get pregnant and miscarry with this kind of uterus. It sounds like initially getting pregnant shouldn't be a problem, so why can't i get pregnant with this kind of uterus? has anyone else experienced this with the same type of uterus? I have never miscarried-not that i know of! It is really frustrating. I just had my tubes cleaned out with a dye, so hopefully now we can conceive.

hi - i am wrong end of 30 and hubby is too....i was pg at 7 wks (with my now 2 year old) when we found out i had a Bicornuate uterus with horns! gross I know. I went and googled and ended up in tears. I want to let you know...pregnancy sucked for me, stress of breach birth (yes she was) and early delivery...but i went on to have scheduled c section, under a specialist in hospital and delievered the most gorgeous 9 lb 8 breach bubba two weeks early!
we are now experiencing secondary fertility but doesnt appear to be anything to do with the BC! I did also have fibroids with it, and they arent the issue either - more like slow swimmers and age!
Good luck ttc - you can get there!

I was dx at age 22 with same thing- told my uterus was perfectly heart-shaped, and I'd likely never get pregnant, and if I did, I was almost guaranteed to miscarry. After 6 mos of not trying (but not using protection) I was pregnant with my older son (who's now 4!) When he was just 10 mos old, surprise! Pregnant again! No complications with the uterus shape whatsoever. Now, with my 6 yr old step-daughter, I'm a proud mom of 3 and trying for one more... So baby dust to you! Sometimes doctors make terrible predictions, but they never know what can happen.

yes and google is def not your friend on this one either....a BC uterus sounds so doom and gloom online....and we did spend the entire first 28 weeks holding our breath and once we passed that magic point i willed her to stay put!

Mine is a gorgoeus upside heart shape...I treasure that 7 week scan photo (i was bleeding that day so they scanned me and found it!) as bubs looks encompassed in a lovely heart shape! now she has stretched the buggery out of it my next one (thinking positively!) probably wont look so cute!

hey i am new to this site...i have been searching for answers after these past three weeks. i had a ton of problems in my 9 1/2 weeks of pregnancy that very sadly ended in a miscarriage on thursday...in the ultrasound they did to see if they could find any answers, they found i had a bicornate uterus...i am really confused about this whole condition...i read these posts and i have been feeling the same way...i googled and did end up in tears...it was really depressing...has anyone lost one pregnancy due to bicornate uterus and gone on to have another healthy pregnancy? my husband and i REALLY want to have children and are hoping are second time around is a success! any advice/information would be helpful, since i am really clueless in the area of bicornate uterus and trying to concieve!

I was told that I had a heart shaped uterus, but the baby looked good on my 1st & 2nd ultrasound never given any reason to worry. I just had my 2nd miscarriage w/in a yr, which was a missed miscarriage when I went in for spotting to the er at around 12 wks. I am very frustrated that no other info or advice was given to me. I am wondering if others have any advice that has worked for them to carry a baby to a safe wk to deliver? I have hope that if it is meant to be it will it's just hard each time to deal w/ the disappointment though.

well we had MC 2 months before conceiving ella. As i said I bled at 7 weeks so was immediately sent for a scan...i think they expected a MC and instead I got a BC! the scan guy was soooo excited! I wasnt! I also have "horns" on the top of my uterus which is common with a BC too. I know of someone on another forum who had a septum BC - which is a divided uterus and she carried to term no worries either.
I think I stressed more than anything getting to an acceptable 28 weeks - google didnt help me feeling that!!!
I found Ella was breach from day dot and when she did try to turn we ended up with hearts racing and hospital admissions! Being breach is normally with a BC! But by time birth came I was sooo ready for a c section you couldnt convince me to do it any other way - and mine was a VERY positive experience - which I credit my Specialist and preparing for a breach baby by c section for!
I also had fibroids - I dont know if they come with a BC but strangulation of one caused MEGA pain we couldnt work out until specialist took it out mins after baby delievered.
I think best advice is to expect a normal pregnancy with all the ups and downs and prepare for a breach birth or c section....if it is a true BC then that is highly likely as bubs sits breach in position and very high up - I swear she dangled her feet in my pelvis and butted my ribs with her head! Yet she came out beautifully perfect! Highly intelligent too (I like think sitting breach helped that !)

OK so risks tho - we would never go full term - Ella delivered 2 weeks early (heck 9 lb 8 tho!) - and i had positions ready to jump in a car if my waters did break early as it would mean that the cord would possibly get rushed out of me and cause all sorts of problems etc...the thought of a natural delivery and experiencing labour still scares me to death and I now hope I will never experience labour...as strange as that might sound you will understand in time that you will want bubs out before you go in labour if you have BC!

Do everything right in your pregnancy..dont drink coffee, dont smoke...dont increase any normal risks...and aim if possible for a slightly early c section!

thank you for your information! i am still trying to put all the pieces of everything that has happened in the last five weeks...i have literally been to the doctors every few days for one thing or another...i ended up having a D&C because the bleeding didn't stop...and then was in the er five days later because of more intense bleeding...but now i am awaiting tests because they think i had a molar pregnancy...but if everything comes back ok i can ttc again right away! i hope so because my husband and i want to have a baby so much!

and i am going to be very careful with my pregnancy...my doc has me following the pregnancy diet even before i am ttc again...so bye bye coffee and caffeine...thanks again for your advice!

I just want you to know that I was diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus at age 16 after a few years of tremendous pain (long story) and one kidney. I was told by about 10 doctors that i could never get pregnant, and if i ever got pregnant, i wouldn't be able to carry to full term and I would have "a one pound baby". I can't tell you how many times i heard that. Long story short (and 15 years later), my husband and I decided to try...and guess what? I have a 6'1" "baby" who is now 21 years old and just graduated college (she weighed 7-1/2 lbs at birth) and a 6'5" baby who is now a freshman in college (he weighed 8 lbs at birth), both healthy pregnancies, although high risk cause they thought i would miscarry, so the moral of this story is DON'T ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE DOCTORS AND KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!! i not only got pregnant when i was told i couldn't, i had 2 healthy babies that weighed over 7 pounds when i was told they would weigh one pound if i even tried to get pregnant, and now they are wonderful kids!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!
