Default Bike Trips?

I always see ads on television where people are biking in the moutains or through parks, and you see people on the highway with their bikes attached to the back of the car. Do any of you go on bike trips? This sounds like a good time to me, but really I would have no idea how to even go about doing it. Where do you go? How long? What do you bring?

My husband and I went biking around a trail around a lake in town. It was fun, but crowded. I think I'd like to go somewhere more in the country, but that definately had a path. I live in a city with lots of outdoors places to go do biking, but I don't know that all cities are that way.

We are fortunate to live by a bike trail that can take you to a couple different lakes and parks and follows a river. We are on it all the time. We take some backpacks with a picnic lunch and blow-up floaties for the lake. It's our favorite family outing.

If you want to make a vacation out of it, there are a lot of organizations that put together bike vacations for every level of biker from tour-de-france wanna-bes to slowpokes who want to stop at quaint cafes every few miles. The one I want to do is in Vermont in the Fall. How beautiful would that be?
