Default Birthday ideas for our dad? Memorable and personalized?

Hey,

Our dad is turning 50 (I know, big one!) about two months from now and we were thinking about getting his friends, colleagues, and the family together and putting some kind of memorable and personalized gift together, but can't think of anything.. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Wow, 50 - that is a big one!

Something like that should be celebrated with a sentimental gift in my opinion, so your dad can look back at it as time goes on and enjoy it. Doesn't mean it can't be complemented by a monetary gift too though.

Have you thought of getting his friends and family together and writing your wishes down? Maybe gather some photos too and put everything in a book format. I've used this site called CelebrateAHero.com, which actually let me invite anybody to chime in and add their wishes / photos. They also printed, bound, and mailed me the book.

As far as monetary gifts, maybe consider a nice watch that will last your dad a lifetime. Maybe a Tag or the like?

Hello
One of the two most important persons in a child's life is father. They sacrifice a lot of their present in making a better tomorrow for their children and expect nothing in return. Being a father yourself maybe you will understand the responsibilities of being a father and the joys of being a son and if you are a son then will surely know the importance of your father in your life.
The best way to thank your fathers would be to gift them something, which has a personal touch of yours, for example some personalized father gifts. Just forget those old tie and shirt this time ..
Like some beautiful frame with pic of there favorite past memories, some antique piece, there favorite thing which he loves more.

What my friend did for her husband's 50th was she had a surprise Bday party for him. She set up the garage one day with memorabilia from his childhood. They even had some of his favorite snacks from growing up. She found a lot of these things from thrift stores and Ebay. She made posters with pictures of things that she couldn't find and put them on the wall, had board games out, played his favorite music and pulled together a slide show of pictures of him growing up. It was neat.
Also if you are looking for a personalized gift I use www.personalizationmall.com . They are not as expensive as the stores in the mall. It is a great site and trust worthy. They have some beautiful gifts and often have sales. Since I've shopped there I get oodles of coupons and percents off.
Good luck!

For my husband's 40th birthday my girlfriend and I made a scrapbook of his first 40 yrs. I contacted friends and relatives privately and asked them to send me photos. We surprised him with it the night before his party and he was in tears. When we displayed it at the party the next day, there were a number of family members that were also in tears - some of them had written a little story to go along with the pictures and we put them all together in a book he will treasure forever.

Personalized gifts are great too - think of something your dad really likes (golf, sports, hunting, etc) and get him something along those lines. If your dad is really hard to buy for (like mine is), maybe a gift certificate is the way to go.

Good Luck!

Kim
