Default Biting Mommy

Alyssa has been biting me. HARD. And I'm the only person she does it to. I know she has some teeth coming in, and have tried everything to relieve her pain. So now I'm thinking there may be a different reason she is biting, since its only me. Any ideas on how to get her to stop? I've heard that over reacting and telling her "No" will encourage the behavior at this age. So what does that leave me with? Ideas! Please help!

I'm a mean mommy....I bit Alejandro back when he did this...not extremly hard but enough that he knew it hurt. He never did it again...not that I'm saying you hsould do it with Alyssa..but..you know. Did anything happen lately with your schedule that she's not getting the time that she had with you before? Could be she is trying to get attention. Like Val says in her new blog you need to Get to the real issue.

That was a very helpful articale thanks! Alyssa is going through her I-only-want-mommy-ALL-of-the-time stage, and she practically clings to me. I'm sure she does not like me going to work at all. But I have no other option, so if that's the issue, I can't quit my job.

I would totally work from home, if I knew how to make a good enough income. I love spending time with my dd!

Don't tell me that sweet little girl bites! She is sooooo cute!

Are you sure that Mommy just did not bite her own arm?

*giggles*

She is getting your attention in a very negative way.
Can you redirect her?

Probably not my best advise either, bit I did nip back once
to get my message acrossed to my, then, toddler aged son.
(Don't leave any teeth marks!)

(((Hugs))) You're a great Mom!

So glad I saw this post. My boy has started biting me, too.... HARD! This weekend it was incessant. I am at a loss. He is just biting me and no one else. I got to the point where I wouldn't pick him up for a couple of hours because he would just 'attack!'.

I have even tried to give him teethers, which he has never really had any interest in.

Things at home are quite stressful with the move so I guess that could be part of it. But MAN! this has got to end soon!

Jean - Let me know if you find something that works.

I'm in the same boat--I have a 13 mo old and he's started this, too.

At first he would lift my shirt and bite my stomach. I figured out quickly that he was probably doing that because we lift his shirt and blow "raspberries" on his belly and he was trying to do the same to me. I've stopped playing with him like that (at least until this passes), but now he's been known to gnaw on my shoulder occasionally.

It's the reaction you display for him when he bites you.
Your reaction should be a firm NO. (every time). This reaction is very boring, soon put him off.
