Let me just start by saying, as a middle aged female Barbie enthusiast who has had a special relationship with Barbie since 1959,
I want one.
I don't think this is kinky, inappropriate, obscene. I think it is superheroine with a kick.
Lets face it, Star Trek Barbie was lame. I mean really lame without the whole setup, which you had to prop her and Ken against. And Mattel's development of Harley Davidson Barbies (ok, Biker Babe Barbies) and Pin Up Barbies for collectors, is well, I think, far more racy than a comicbook heroine. Even the Bob Mackie Barbies, which are gorgeous, sometimes suggest overdressed showgirls.
Yet there is a bit of a fuss about this doll - some folks think she looks a little, well, kinky. A bit, uh, imposing, dominating.
I think they should look into the entire line of collectable Barbies and get their heads out of Hustler.
This is not a doll for children. It is a doll for collectors, adults.
When I had my first Barbie back before you children were born, I remember the nuns at my Catholic school telling me that Barbie could not come to play with me at recess, because she was wearing that striped strapless bathing suit, barely covering...uh...herself. And guess what? Barbie is still playing on many playgrounds and in many little girls bedrooms. AND I STILL BUY BARBIE DOLLS.
So I think the folks who want to stop the sale of this model need to grow up.
I am old enough to have protested "
Growing up Skipper" back in the 70s. You twisted the dolls arm and it grew breasts. That was worth protesting. This isn't.
