Black stuff on teeth
I noticed that Alex's teeth have black or brown junk on them. I read somewhere that a lot of kids get that. We brush her teeth, although she likes to stick her tounge out when we do it, and it makes it hard to do a great job. But we try! I called the dentist and he said that they don't typically see children for the first time until they are at least three because they are too young before that. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I read that it it usually caused by sugar, and that toddlers get this a lot more because they drink a lot more juice than normal. What should I do about it? Any advice?

You should call another dentist. My pedi always said that children need to see a dentist when they are 1 year old. Even though the dentist won't do much, just examine teeth and clean them, if you are calling with a genuine concern for your child's dental health and they tell you to call back in two years, that is a big problem for me.
Furthermore, I don't think it is really normal to have black stuff on your baby's teeth. I would make an appt with a good pediatric dentist and take her for a check up.

Get a decent dentist! Children need to go to the dentist before they even have teeth to get used to visits and ensure their gums are ok. I've not heard of or seen the marks before.

Yes be careful of too much flouride! My neice has teeth that are all blotchy and yucky,...they said it was from too much flouride along with her reflux!!!!!!!!! (and it is her adult teeth)

Too much flouride causes white blotches, not black. You'd have to have a TON of flouride to notice any ill effects from it.
Some flouride actually prevents decay
Anyway, yep, find a new dentist. I'd cut back on the sugary stuff she gets, too.

I agree that you need to find a new dentist. It could be black tartar which some children are prone to or just dodgy teeth. My youngest boy has bad teeth and they put it down to poor enamel and the terrible stress I was under when I was pg with him.
Try not to worry too much.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I will give another dentist a call... I called the dentist that we usually go to, and they seem great, so I took what they said seriously. At the time that I called them, she didn't have any teeth problems, so they probably saw no reason to see her right away.
I was just reading the label on her favorite juice (V8 Splash Tropical Blend) and ingredient #2 is High Fructose Corn Syrup!!!! That would do it in the sugar department! Geeze!
