Blankets & SIDS??
Ok as you all know I am TRYING to get Nevy to sleep in her crib. Well my problem is this...
Nevy has a blankey that is soft fabric on one side and silky on the other (blanket used in siggy. the one over her head). I have NEVER let her sleep with one before. I have a sack thing you put her in and zip up that is a blanket. The last two nights I have layed her in the crib she has been pulling the silky blanket in her crib through the bars (it sits on the toy chest at the foot of her crib). I wouldn't really care but she sleeps with it over her face !! No joke she takes the whole blanket and pulls it over her head and then falls right to sleep! Its a very thin blanket but I am still worried about the whole link to SIDS and blankets. Last night I moved the blanket away from her crib so she couldn't get to it and she woke up at 5am screaming! When I put her back down in the crib I gave her the blanket and she was out like a light! Is it ok for her to sleep with this blanket over her head?? Oh if I try to move it or take it away after she falls asleep she wakes up crying right away! I dont know what to do! Does anyone have any ideas? Ok sorry this was so long and thanks for listening!

both my girls (the same blankets too) have slept with them since birth; and both, like Nevy, sleep with them over their heads. Kaydee has done it since the day she was born. Actually when the would sleep in the swing or the car seat you would have to cover her eyes with it to even get her to sleep!
Especially now that Nevy is old enough to roll over and move, you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

All 5 of my kids have had blankies since the were tiny and they used to sleep with they practically shoved up their noses at Nevy's age. Once a baby is mobile the risk of SIDS goes right down so try not to worry.

Ditto, Kenzie sleeps with a blanket, too. Granted, she doesn't pull it over her face(she rubs it on her cheek) She does prefer to bury her face in the matress to sleep! Fun times!!

Vinnie had a blankie that he has slept with since he was about Nevy's age... He HAS to have it at all times and he is almost 3! He wouldn't put it over his head, but up covering his face... I'm sure if they couldn't breathe they would move though!

Just to be clear (and to put your mind at ease) there isn't a link between blankets and SIDS. The issues is that a blanket can cause suffocation and/or potentially get wrapped around their neck. SIDS is an "unknown cause of death". I agree with the other ladies--once babies are mobile, it's fine to have a thin blanket.

Emma sleeps face down for about the first 1/2 hour at night. If I touch her head to move it to one side she instantly sits up and cries. I gave up that fight about a month ago.

My girls are all into blankets (which they call their "cozy" -- no idea where it came from, Heike just started calling it that). Heike is the one who sleeps with it over her head. I often go in when I check on her and take it off her face (mostly because she sweats like crazy), but I'm lucky because if she wakes up, she just cuddles with it. Amber, on the other hand, chews on hers. I have no idea why... But she loves to cuddle with it when she sleeps.
I never realized that there was an issue with blankets, other than the mobility thing.

I wish Tiffany had a blanket!!! I had one, it was my blankie. I loved it so much. Tiffany has one (or 3) Silky on one side furry on the other. She just hasn't gotten attached to it.
All your babies sound so cute with their Blankies!!!! Enjoy.
