Blood Transfusions - Your Thoughts
Blood transfusions is the topic.
If you have major surgery and need a transfusion because of bleeding,
would you accept it?
If you were in a car accident, had loss of blood,
when you hit the Emergency Dept with the ambulance,
the doc orders a transfusion, would you accept it?
If your child or grandchild was having a planned surgery,
would you donate blood?
If you were going to have a planned surgery,
would you pre-donate your own blood?
Have you ever received a transfusion?
Would you concerned about any infectious diseases in the transfusion?
Do you have any religious preferences about blood or transfusions?
Please share....

You asked a lot of questions Yes I would accept blood. Yes I would donate/pre donate if my doctor recommended it.
My dad got a transfusion over 30 years ago. Blood was not tested back then. He developed hepatitis. Thankfully with treatment, it's gone but I do know the risks of blood transfusions.

I have donated, and will definitely use it if needed. I think it's kind of sad that there are some people who would rather die than accept the blood of others, but then again, I find a lot about organized religion troubling.

Do you have any religious preferences about blood or transfusions? That it's human and red? lol j/k....seriously, no preferences at all.

blood when needed
I have never received blood but my daughter would not be alive if she hadn't had blood and plasma exchange. Yes, God worked a miracle in her life but through the agency of caring individual who gave blood.
She and her brother and I all donate becasue we've seen the importance of it. See my blog, Hope for the Hopeless -Part 1.
In Australia these days there are rigid rules before anyone is allowed to donate blood.

Yes I would have a tranfusion if there was no other choice. After I had Josh my Iron levels were 6. something and they offered a transfusion which I declined. My iron levels went up and were close to normal by the time I had my pp check at 6 weeks. My husband donates blood regularly.

Yes--I received 3 bags of blood when I gave birth to the 2nd twin. Really, there wasn't much of a choice. . .either die from bleeding to death or take the blood.
I would happily donate although I have yet to be considered an acceptable candidate due to pg, or anemia, having been in a foreign country or having been recently sick with mono. My day is coming though!

I think it's always preferable to get blood from either yourself (pre-emptive) or from your family or someone you know. But if there's an emergency and one's life depended on it, I would think it foolish to turn it down.
