Yep. It happens when the mom has negative blood type and the dad has positive blood type (O, A, B, AB doesn't really matter, just the Rh + or -). If a Rh- mom has a baby that has Rh+ blood it is not really an issue the first go around except that her body will build antibodies that will attack all future Rh+ babies. So Rh- mom's are usually given a rhogam shot at 28 weeks and then after delivery if the baby is Rh+. If you deliver an Rh- baby then you will not need the second shot! Hope this makes sense. Btw, I am Rh- and I have had 3 Rh- children.
