Memory, Candy Land, and alphabet bingo come to mind but I like the games on www.boardgames.com as they are off the well trodden path and are different.
When I used to baby sit my little brother when he was 5 we used to play "Cooties" and "Ants in the pants" and "Don't break the ice"... they are still some of my favorites
Any Carnium game....I love them all. they are fun for adults and the kids. I get one for christmas each year for the kids. I think the cranium site has the games according to age of you want to take a look

My daughter enjoys all of the above, plus MIL plays HiHoCherrios or something like that with her and she loves it. We also get card games (Corral the Cow, matching games) and play those.

Candy land and Chutes and Ladders were two of my favorites, and my kids loved them too.
My 17 year old son still remembers Candyland, thinks it looks like pics of Russia he has seen. My 23 year old son remembers trying to bend the rules of Chutes and ladders by going UP the chutes.
how about go fish, memory, crazy eights, even war with a regular deck of cards. we also like ants in the pants, cooties, don't spill the beans, lucky ducks and the fishing game(don't know the name of that 1, sorry)
