Wholeheartedly agree with the above especially in babies under 6 months who are sufficiently breast fed! Too much water is not good either, if it is replacing nutrients from normal feeding.I think we agree though that a little!! boiled cooled water occasionally, does no harm as an extra!! to young babies especially as I said before if they are constipated! When I worked as a midwife we gave new babies sterilised water if they were 'greedy' and obviously demanding far more feeding than was good for them! Schools of thought I suppose

Still. . .can't. . .bring. . .myself. . .to. . .give. . .bottles. . .for. . .present. . .

(And of course. . .if babies are constipated, they need water. And there are a whole slew of things that the AAP says not to do that people do and generally no harm comes to their babies.)

Okay. . .I'll come clean. I actually hate giving bottles, onesies, washcloths, baby clothing (unless it is incredibly cute or original) diaper cakes, bibs, cutesy rattles, etc. for baby gifts. People who know me IRL assume too it's bc I'm the supreme queen lactamaiden but truth be told--I hate giving gifts that are common place. Some shower gifts I've given:
*a freezer full of meals
*a hospitality basket for the hospital full of spa stuff from bath & body works and homemade goodies, and pair of super nice fluffy slippers.
*slings. . .I have someone that makes them by hand that I order from
*or a book from Dr. Sears' library
*breastfeeding basket (at mom's request--I would never give this to someone who didn't ask for it or make it really clear that she was going to bf)
Oh and I once paid for the mom to be and her spouse to get certified in infant CPR and First Aid (after expressed interest). And I have also given gift certificates towards mommy and baby post natal fitness classes or mommy and baby swim classes.

So you see, I'm not nearly as opposed to bottle feeding formula as I am to giving unoriginal gifts--!

I BFed and got a few bottles for when I pumped. I worked that first year. I used the Breast flow bottles. They helped with switching back and forth from breast to bottle.
What I found odd was that I told people I was BFing and they still gave me containers to put formula in... I never used them.
