Default BPA's in bottles and other baby stuff

Has everyone heard about the bottles containing chemicals that are bad for babies (and any other living thing)
I had read about it somewhere but didn't really pay attention to it till I saw that California has passed a law banning the sale of products containing these BPA's and phthalates in them. (if the product is for a child under 3) I guess they can cause all kinds of problems, and with babies being so much smaller than adults it affects them more than it would us.
Anyways I thought I'd put it up here for anyone who hadn't heard.
A lot of the baby bottles contain BPA's and there are a lot of company's that are starting to make bottles BPA-free. (Born free, any glass bottles, Paytex drop-ins) If anyone is interested I have some links to sites with info on it. Let me know.

Thanks! This is really old news. I have written a couple of blogs on it:

Is Your Baby's Bottle Safe--UPDATE and Is Your Baby's Bottle Safe

Somewhere on here there's another thread discussing this too, but I can't find it. I think the law in California is probably ill informed and panic driven to be honest. I haven't read it but I've read stories about it. I am wondering what California will do for all the mothers that can no longer afford bottles. That will undoubtedly be the backlash from this law.

I heard about this too Val...but in all plastics...a while ago they were telling us not to microwave any plastics as the particles would then go into our food.

That's exactly why I'm not real concerned about it. I've only read American studies but I can't believe that any modernized nation would be that different. It's in our IV bags and any other flexible plastic that a hospital uses. (Although I guess those don't get washed so maybe it's not as much of an issue?) It's in all the kids' toys. Essentially, it is the chemical added to plastic to make it flexible. . .baggies, etc. You name it. In one study I read, 99% of Americans have BPA in their systems. But you'd think by the way some of these people are talking that we'd all be dropping dead with brain damage and/or fertility problems. Furthermore, all of these studies that prove bpa causes this or that have been done in mice and rats. Very few human studies have been conducted and those studies, at least that I've read, don't necessarily concur with the animal studies. You're kind of darned if you do and darned if you don't IMO.

That's why I've stopped nuking our leftovers in the containers...and we recycle the empty water bottles. Its in everything but I can make sure that I limit what we get into us.

the one thing with animal studies (mice/rats etc) is that doses/exposure per weigh ratio is higher than compare to humans, so problems are likely to show cos they're basically being overdosed

I agree. . .on both counts. We do what we can to limit exposure too. . .but I don't drive myself crazy doing it. Handwashing vs dishwasher washing is supposed to preverse the life and lessen the leak of chemicals as well.

probably. . .I hand't thought of that but I don't know why it wouldn't pass. Although the amount that passes is probably so miniscule it's a non-issue.

They have been talking about this since my first baby was born nine years ago. Nothing has been done. I agree with limiting exposure. The amount of chemicals we are exposed to is insane. I don't use bottles, so that's not an issue here, but we do limit exposure in other ways. We don't microwave in plastic. I read a few years ago that you should never freeze water bottles, as this also causes leaching of chemicals into the water. I would do this every once in a while before I read that. I also use NO plastic toys at all when they are little babies. Later, when they aren't gnawing on the toys, I don't worry as much. Seeing a little baby chewing on plastic makes me feel a little sick to my stomach.
