Bratz and Myscene dolls
Do you Approve or disapprove of Bratz and myscene dolls? Why?
I disapprove of them because of the way they are dressed I don’t think it is right for our girls I will not buy them for my kids.

I am not familiar with the Myscene dolls but I can't stand the Bratz dolls personally because they look rebellious and snotty--lol! I also don't like the way they dress, but I think Barbie can take a few fashion tips in modesty too. At least she looks perky and pleasent.

I don't have girls, and I probably would not have bought some of these dolls for them. I collect dolls, and if my collection featured more barbies and the like, I probably would have bought the bratz and myscene as collectibles. I find them attractive, but likely not as playable as barbie for a whole lot of reasons.
When I was a kid in Catholic school, the nuns would not let me bring my barbies to school because of the skimpy tiger stripe bathing suit and just the general grown up appeal of the doll. (We're talking straight legs ponytail Barbie #3 here). That was a whole new concept of play then, having adult fashion dolls for little girls. I usually dressed the doll in outfits my grandma made for her as well as the outfits that were on the market. (solo in the spotlight was my favorite - the most impossible dress for real women to wear, but what a beauty!) So I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the sexiness of a doll or marketing - it is what happens to it in a childs hands that is important.
Barbie got better as she got older. Unlike people, she got more flexible and bendable, and her hair got thicker after they rooted it.
And her head didn't come off quite so much.

I'm not familiar with Brtaz dolls and so I asked my 17 year old and she said "oh my gosh mom they are **** dolls". For my daughter to say that, they must be awful.
We do buy dolls for my niece and I've always bought dolls that are dressed modestly. My sister loves the dolls I find.

Our DD is getting all my old Barbies I personally think Bratz are kinda ugly looking. I don't like how they porportioned the heads and eyes and such so we won't be getting any of those for her.

I find the "Bratz" dolls to be absolutely disgusting. Everything from the clothing they wear to the overly unrealistic imagine of having a body smaller than their heads. What sort of a message does that give young girls? It's bad enough that you ca't turn on the T.V. without seeing some underweight woman in a belly top, why put it in their toy box as well?
I've suffered from both Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nevosa in my younger years. The images that the media delievers as what a woman "should" be are disgusting, and I feel this "Bratz" thing will end up creating ideas for these young girls that being two pounds is something cool.
And most people complained about how unproportional Barbie dolls are when I was younger.. Barbie has nothing on these Lolipop bodied barely clothed dolls!
When I have finally give birth to a healthy little girl she will not be exposed to such things. In todays world we put so much emphasis on how being skinny is being healthy. Personally I'd rather be fat than insecure (and, let me tell you from experience - the insecurity of an eating disorder never completely goes away - I'm a size 2 or 4 in almost even store I go to and I have my days where I hate everything abhout myself).
I seriously am not even letting my children watch Nick though. Have you seen that STL stuff? They're just prepping another MTV generation. I wont have it, my girls will not expose their knees and my boys will open doors for ladies.
Maybe I'm just too conservative.

Now what are Groovy Girls?
I'm not too hip to the 3+ toys lately, I only shop for a 1 year old.

I don't care...I think they look silly, but dolls are dolls. I HATED Barbie growing up-had tons of them but they were only fit to cut their hair. My friend had a sick fascination with Barbie though, 'cause her parents only let her have Skipper. It was just stupid, and she played with "real" barbies at school anyway. I don't think it hurt her any. In this case, I think by making it a "no no" just makes it more attractive for the child. imo

I think you all will agree with me when I say that these dolls should be banned! My seven year old daughter came home from school last week with a Trampy looking doll and a REAL topaz ring she then says "Mom look at my Bling Bling" You can just imagine the horror on my face. When I asked were she got the doll and ring she said that her best friend’s mother got her a My Scenes Bling Bling doll!! I sat my daughter down gave her a lecture on why it’s not right for a seven year old to have a doll like that or say such words as my Bling Bling. I then went over to the girl’s house returned the doll and told her why I didn’t want my child to have it.
There is also a Bratz movie coming out her best friend is going to see it but I just don’t think it is right for young girls to see. Here is the link to the movie site it looks really bad for young girls..
